About the role

Tract is a team of digital infrastructure experts dedicated to accelerating responsible data center growth by developing master-planned data center parks with access to pre-positioned power and fiber in key markets where hyperscale and wholesale demand is going.  Our approach is collaborative with cities and counties to ensure development is targeted for the optimal locations to maximize the revenue and economic development benefits for the community while being good stewards of the land and minimizing the impact on neighbors.  Tract is headquartered in Denver, Colorado, with real estate holdings throughout the United States.

Position Overview:

The Director of Fiber Optic Network Design is the leader responsible for master planning the fiber optic network pathways throughout the Tract Data Center Campuses. The Director is fully accountable for the final design content, documentation and implementation to support the physical fiber pathway infrastructure supporting outside plant communications facilities throughout Tract's multi thousand-acre master planned data center campuses. The Director of Fiber Optic Network Design will actively collaborate with the Director, Network Planning and Acquisition to bring commercial long haul and metro networks to Interconnection points within the Tract Data Center Campuses.

Experience Qualifications:

The successful candidate will have experience and practical expertise in the following:

  • Fiber Optic Fundamentals:
    • Good understanding of the physics behind fiber optics, including the principles of light transmission, attenuation, and dispersion in single-mode fibers.
    • Knowledge of optical signal types (e.g., DWDM, CWDM) and the technologies used to multiplex data streams over the same fiber.
    • Awareness of factors that affect fiber performance, like temperature sensitivity and physical stresses (bending, pulling) on fiber strands.
  • Network Design and Topology Planning:
    • Expertise in designing high-capacity, reliable fiber networks that meet both current and future bandwidth demands.
    • Ability to evaluate different topologies, including point-to-point, ring, and mesh configurations, based on redundancy, failover capabilities, and latency requirements.
    • Familiarity with infrastructure planning to ensure route diversity and avoid potential single points of failure.
  • Fiber Standards and Compliance:
    • Knowledge of industry standards from organizations like ITU-T (International Telecommunication Union), ANSI/TIA (Telecommunications Industry Association), and IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers).
    • Familiarity with guidelines on fiber performance, bandwidth specifications, and safety codes that ensure compatibility across different providers and equipment.
  • Hands-on Technical Skills:
    • Familiarity in using equipment for fiber optic splicing, termination, and testing, such as fusion splicers, OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometers), and power meters.
    • Troubleshooting skills for identifying issues in fiber connections and solving physical layer problems such as signal loss and fiber breaks.
    • Familiarity with fiber cable installation techniques, including conduit placement, aerial installation, and underground trenching.
  • Project Management:
    • Expertise in coordinating large-scale deployment projects, including timelines, milestones, and resource allocation for installing fiber optic infrastructure.
    • Ability to manage cross-functional teams, including coordinating with civil engineers, construction teams, and municipal authorities for route planning.
  • Health and Safety Standards:
    • Familiarity with OSHA and other he
