About the role

To act as a Patient Advocate to ensure patient’s complaints and grievances are heard and responded to in keeping with The Joint Commission and Hospital Standards of psychiatric patient care. Use of interviews and medical record review to resolve patient and or family concerns in a compassionate and timely fashion and document investigations and findings in a professional letter to patients and/or family members and facility logs. To retrieve, abstract, and analyze data for compliance and process improvement purposes. Support Risk Management investigations and reporting processes.

*Pay Range: $25/hr. to $35/hr.

Responsibilities:

  • Investigates and resolves complaints and concerns received from patients and family members and assures the integrity of patient’s rights.
  • Responds in written form to patient grievances
  • Teaches classes to hospital staff as assigned
  • Trains staff in patient rights issues
  • Participates in mandatory orientation and training activities
  • Serves and participates on hospital committees as assigned
  • Abstracts and analyzes quality data, prepares and presents reports .
  • Supports Quality and Risk Program and associated activities.
  • Compose, type and disseminate correspondence for Quality Director as assigned.
  • Assists staff in preparing for various survey activity, audits, and site reviews.
  • Assist Director of Quality and Risk Management with medical record audits
  • Participates in activities which enhance professional growth and development.
  • Complies with facility quality, safety, infection control and security program.
  • Supports facility internal and external customer service standards.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • College degree is highly preferred in Nursing or Psychology
  • Experience in health care setting working with patients, with mental health preferred. Medical terminology and familiarity with medical records is necessary.
  • Must be able to comprehend the pertinent instructions for complying with state and federal guidelines. Knowledge of Patient Rights as highly preferred.
  • The position requires office organization, time management and problem-solving skills; diplomacy, flexibility and telephone etiquette; excellent business English skills and familiarity with business formats and principles for correspondence and files; basic math skills; excellent computer skills; attention to detail.
  • Must have experience with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Must have intermediate skills in working with Excel spreadsheets. Skills in maintaining information as highly confidential.
