Job Description:

Summary:


The Kogod Center for Professionalism and Communications is seeking enthusiastic and highly motivated undergraduate students to serve as Peer Consultants. This position offers the opportunity to develop professional and leadership skills while helping fellow students improve their writing and speaking abilities. Peer Consultants play a vital role in fostering a supportive and collaborative learning environment for the university community.

Essential Functions:

  • Conduct one-on-one consultations with students on writing and speaking assignments across disciplines.

  • Provide constructive feedback to help students improve clarity, organization, argumentation, and style in their written work.

  • Assist students in developing and practicing effective public speaking and presentation skills.

  • Maintain a positive and professional demeanor, ensuring sessions are respectful and inclusive.

  • Participate in regular training sessions to enhance consulting skills and deepen knowledge of writing and communication strategies.

  • Collaborate with staff on outreach events, workshops, and other center initiatives.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

  • Part-time.

  • 5 hours per week.

Salary Range:

  • $17.95 per hour.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Strong writing and speaking skills, with the ability to articulate feedback clearly and diplomatically.

  • Interest in teaching, mentoring, or helping peers succeed academically.

  • Availability to attend mandatory training sessions at the start of each semester.

  • Reliable, responsible, and able to manage time effectively in a busy work environment.


Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Familiarity with APA, MLA, or other citation styles.

  • Experience working with students from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.

  • Prior experience with tutoring, peer mentoring, or similar roles is a plus but not required.
