Overview
The Director of Ice Operations oversees, supervises, and coordinates the daily ice operations of the complex. This includes but is not limited to ice maintenance and repair, resurfacer upkeep, edge work, equipment safety, and general facility maintenance (HVAC, water treatment, etc.). The individual in this role will have full autonomy in managing the four sheets of ice used by the St. Louis Blues (NHL), Lindenwood University (NCAA D1), AAA & AA youth hockey teams, and recreational youth hockey. Additionally, the position is responsible for providing administrative planning, direction, and policy guidance to operating managers and supervisors, ensuring the highest standards of service and ice conditions. The Director of Ice Operations will also manage the department's budget, ensuring an effective and cost-efficient program while offering high-level support to the General Manager.
This role pays an annual salary of $70,000 to $80,000 and is bonus eligible.

Responsibilities
- Oversees daily operation and maintenance of the ice rinks to ensure the highest quality ice surface on all four ice rinks; including, glass and dasher board maintenance, cleaning, edge work, ice thickness, quality control, general HVAC knowledge, and water treatment.
- Proven ability in operating Olympia ice resurfacers and conducting the necessary preventative maintenance.
- Select, train, motivate, schedule, and evaluate ice maintenance staff; provide or coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline and termination procedures.
- Responsible for ice surface installation and removal; including ice painting, in-ice logo installation
- Work in partnership with the Director of the Facility Operations on general building maintenance and projects.
- Participate in the development and administration of the facility’s operations and capital budgets; forecast additional funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies; monitor and approve expenditures; implement adjustments as necessary
- Responsible for Health & Safety compliance
- Develop and update comprehensive management reports and manuals (i.e. Ice Operations Manual, Annual Facility Report, etc.)
- Demonstrate continuous effort to improve ice operations, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, facility stakeholders and facility users
- All other duties as assigned by the General Manager
Qualifications
- 5 years’ experience in ice and facility operations management.
- 3+ years’ experience working with NHL, AHL, or NCAA D1 hockey rinks.
- Certified Ice Technician designation from the US Ice Rink Association
- B.S. or B.A. degree from an accredited college/university preferred.
- Must show demonstrated knowledge of ice maintenance, ice resurfacer operations, supervisory skills and experience in work crew supervision in facility operations.
- Ability to work event nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
- Knowledge of budget preparation and control.
- Knowledge of OSHA requirements.
- Knowledge of ice making, ice painting, in-ice logo installation
- Capable of operating in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, Outlook
- Ability to supervise the work of others
- Ability to communicate with employees, co-workers, volunteers, management staff, and guests in a clear, business-like, and respectful manner which focuses on generating a positive, enthusiastic, and cooperative work environment
- Ability to speak, read, and write in English
- Ability to work well in a team-oriented, fast-paced, event-driven environment
- Working knowledge of equipment safety, facility maintenance, and housekeeping
- Must possess current and valid driver’s license
- Excellent customer service skills
