The Raytheon team is looking for a Software Engineering Intern to support the Missile Defense Sensors (MDS) Software (SW) Department in the summer of 2026.  The MDS SW mission is to provide world class Radar and Command and Control (C2) Software for our customers’ wide array of Surveillance and Warning Systems. We align to the core Agile and DevSecOps principles of collaborative operation across the entire value stream, delivering high-frequency, high-quality deployments to our customers.  We strive for technical excellence by drawing upon a workforce whose knowledge base covers the complete spectrum of modern computing languages and platforms.

As a member of our team, you will design, develop, test, and release software products for one of our Radar or C2 programs. Some of the programs our department supports include the AN/TPY-2 Radar ( https://www.rtx.com/raytheon/what-we-do/strategic-missile-defense/antpy-2), the Sea-Based X-Band Radar (SBX/XBR), and the Taiwan Surveillance Radar Program (SRP).

The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in software design and development, an eagerness to learn, the ability to work 100% onsite and collaboratively with a team, and an interest in complex, real-time, safety-critical systems.

What You Will Do as a Software Engineer:

Work on an agile team responsible for developing and delivering software for one of the MDS Department’s programs.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Assist and participate in the requirements, design, development and testing of real-time application software and tools, to include development of new work products or enhancement of existing applications and systems.
  • Participate in internal reviews of software components and systems.
  • Work on problems with defined scope, schedule, and expectations.
  • Follow established development practices and processes to maintain the configuration management of software products.

What You Will Learn

  • The workings of Missile Defense Systems and/or Command and Control (C2) Systems.
  • How to develop and maintain large-scale, complex software solutions in an agile environment.
  • Testing frameworks and best practices to enable high-quality software deliveries utilizing Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery concepts.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • This position is for an intern who is enrolled in a Bachelor’s (or higher) degree program in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and will be at minimum Sophomore, Junior, Senior or Post Grad year by summer 2026.
    Experience developing software with C, C++,  Java, or Ada.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security interim clearance prior to the start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
  • This position requires 12 months or less of relevant professional work experience (excluding internships).

Qualifications We Value:

  • Experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins), configuration management tools (Git, Bitbucket, Artifactory), and data analysis tools (MATLAB, Python).
  • Knowledge of data structures and algorithms, memory management, and multithreaded applications.
  • Well-developed communication, technical writing, oral presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience contributing to a team environment for the purpose of developing creative solutions to complex technical problems.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment with time-critical requirements.
  • Ability to promote a culture of continuous learning, cross-team collaboration and training.
