Protective is seeking well qualified candidates for a Program Manager position to support our Protection Division leadership team. This position could be virtual or based in one of our offices in Birmingham, AL, Covington, KY, or St Louis, MO. The program manager’s primary focus is to facilitate and participate in setting strategy and planning objectives and activities for all Division key strategic initiatives, including inputs for financial reporting, forecasting, and budgeting. This role is also responsible for acting as a project manager and/or Division leadership representative/advocate interfacing with other groups across the organization to ensure the successful completion of large-scale Division-level projects. As a result, coordination of the key responsibilities below, communication between cross-functional management, and strong leadership and facilitation skills are critical.

Key Responsibilities

  • Acts as a project manager and/or Division leadership representative/advocate. Builds and leads cross-functional teams to execute on Division business planning process
  • Establishes and facilitates the development and coordination of the Division strategy and planning work and all associated elements in partnership with the Division leadership. Includes:
  • Understanding the annual planning cycle, initiating deliverables as needed, developing various content, and helping to ensure deliverables remain on track
  • Facilitates key planning/alignment/progress sessions to establish Division goals, priorities, and initiatives linked to corporate goals
  • Drives annual process and prioritization to deliver Division operating plans for the next year, linked to budget and Division economics
  • Develops project plans, key deliverables, tactical plans, and owners to ensure the timely execution of key initiatives. Outlines key deliverables and holds others accountable, ensuring all initiatives are correctly identified, tracked, measured, and monitored
  • Operates as proxy in cross-functional teams on behalf of Division leadership with all corporate functions and shared services
  • Manages cross-functional and cross-organizational interdependencies and takes a leadership role in the change management process. Builds and maintains an enterprise-wide view of the needs and demands required to satisfy the Division’s goals and objectives
  • Provides counsel to senior management on the opportunities and challenges in satisfying goals and objectives. Distills, synthesizes, and clearly communicates complex details to facilitate timely and effective decision-making

  • Plans and efficiently facilitates delivery of regular Division communication and events
  • Creates and maintains a Division calendar. Prioritizes urgent matters by providing reminders for upcoming deadlines, deliverables, and events. Facilitates operating rhythms and management routines across the Division.
  • Facilitates readiness and content creation/production for key events/communications

  • Create and update complex and detailed PowerPoint presentations and Excel spreadsheets in support of Quarterly Business Review, Board of Director, Rating Agency, all-division communications, Corporate Officers Meeting, Senior Leader Meeting, National Sales Conference and other key events
  • Facilitates weekly Senior Leadership Team meetings including influencing the agenda and participants
  • Facilitates the development and execution of the senior leader’s communication strategy
  • For leadership team
  • Weekly meetings, monthly and quarterly business reviews, quarterly recaps
  • Acts as a liaison with PMO/IT. Gathers and facilitates force-ranking discussion within cross-functional leadership teams to develop a prioritized list on behalf of the Division
  • Coordinates with counterpart roles in the Retirement Division and APD

  • Operates as point person for large-scale Division issues requiring broader mobilization.
  • E.g. regulatory changes, acquisition integration support, coordinating a review of critical vendors and relationship owners annually, etc.
  • Works with leadership team to define scope, approach, accountabilities, operating rhythms and execution plans when needed
  • Provides timely reports to project sponsors and key management members

  • Other responsibilities as needed
  • Acts as the Business Continuity Plan coordinator for the Division
