Responsibilities
Peraton is seeking a Scientific Software Engineer to join our team based in Greenbelt, MD, Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC), to support our Space Exploration Network Services and Evolution (SENSE) contract.This position will allow for 100% remote telework, with occasional travel to NASA sites as needed; a candidate who is local or within commuting distance to the GSFC site is preferred.
As prime contractor on the SENSE contract, Peraton is responsible for the operation, maintenance, sustainment, and systems engineering of NASA’s worldwide satellite communication networks. Join the SENSE team to support NASA programs that integrate with state-of-the-art RF satellite communications systems and technologies. In this position, you will become part of NASA’s return to the moon, support new earth and space science missions, and launch vehicles. You will be an integral part of a world class team that ensures NASA space-ground communications are reliable and meet mission requirements.
In this position, you will work with the NASA Space Geodesy Network (NSGN) program by supporting the maintenance, sustainment, test and integration of software in the NSGN Data Operations Center (DOC). The NSGN program provides Operations, Maintenance, and Sustainment services for NSGN, which includes Satellite Laser Ranging (SLR) and Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) systems.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Monitor data reception, processing, and delivery to the ILRS data centers.
- Maintain and improve source code responsible delivery of data to the ILRS data centers.
- Develop and modify software in accordance with applicable requirements documentation.
- Develop and execute test plans for verification of operational software.
- Generate engineering change documentation to capture software modifications.
- Support software maintenance activities including problem troubleshooting and recovering unreleased data.
- Performing duties in accordance with all systems engineering and configuration management policies and procedures.
Qualifications
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Physics, Mathematics, or a related technical/engineering discipline and 8-10+ years of related experience; a MS degree and 6-8+ years of related experience; or a PHD and 3+ years of related experience
- Experience modifying legacy code bases
- Experience with problem solving, problem resolution, and root cause analysis
- Experience with any of the following programming languages: Python, C/C++, Bash, and Perl
- Experience with Linux platform
- Experience with Git and other software version control or management tools
- Ability to pass a government background check which requires U.S. Citizenship, and ability to obtain DOD Secret clearance if required by the program
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with data acquisition, system monitoring, and hardware control software
- Experience with scientific data analysis, visualization, and presentation.
- Experience designing and maintaining software to control optical systems.
- Experience with mechanical design software such SolidWorks or AutoCAD.
- Experience or basic understanding of the Fortran programming language
- Ability to work well individually and in a team environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communications skills
- Ability to work under challenging timelines with ambiguity

Target Salary Range
$104,000 - $166,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.Apply for this role
