About the role
The Operating Supervisor in the Survey section supervises and coordinates the activities of Survey personnel that provide survey services for Construction Operations, Public Improvement, Substation & Transmission, Electric Operations, Steam, Real Estate, and the Law department. Ensures all code 753 mark-outs are accurate and performed in compliance with all local regulations and company procedures.
Core Responsibilities
- Ensure implementation of Company safety, health, and environmental programs for employees whose work is directed. Ensure that safe work practices are followed, and the environment is fully protected in accordance with Company policy and governmental regulations.
- Commitment to the Way We Work Principles and adheres to the Companys Standards of Business Conduct and other Company procedures including Environmental, Health and Safety (EH&S), Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO), discipline, and security.
- Supervises the development of layouts and drawings using Auto-Cad, ProjectWise, Irth, and Map view.
- Working knowledge of City and State sewer, water and highway systems.
- Supports the Law and Real Estate departments by researching land titles and easements.
- Prepares and procures easements and New York City DOT sewer connection permits.
- Conducts meetings with company field personnel, engineering, City and State agencies, and other customers to resolve issues.
- Research, test and implement new equipment or techniques that improve productivity and quality of work.
- Ensure survey personnel receive required OJTs and are informed of the departments Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Monitors the scheduling of work to ensure accurate and timely completion.
- Reviews completed work for content, accuracy, and in compliance to survey specifications.
- Evaluates the field personnel activities and institutes changes where required.
- Enforces good housekeeping practices for company equipment and work areas
- Bachelor's Degree Civil Engineering or Survey Technology and 2 years work experience as a surveyor or
- Associate's Degree Civil Engineering or Survey Technology and 4 years work experience as a surveyor or
- High School Diploma/GED and 6 years experience as a surveyor
- Knowledge of survey practices and technology including engineering standards and specifications to develop layouts and drawings, required.
- Experience with interpretation of relevant drawings and specifications, required.
- Demonstrated skills and experience with Microsoft Office products, required.
- Experience with the construction of Electric and or Gas facilities, required.
- Familiarity with construction safety protocols and environmental criteria, preferred.
- Demonstrated supervisory experience, preferred.
- Ability to interpret basic information on drawings.
- Ability to build strong customer relationships

- Ability to drive multiple projects to successful completion
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, etc.
- Driver's License Required
- Ability to respond to system emergencies
- Able to work in all weather conditions, i.e. excessive heat and/or cold
- Ability to work in adverse conditions that include, noise, confined spaces, and high elevations
- Ability to climb ladders and stairs
- Ability to work in inclement weather and adverse conditions (i.e., excessive heat, cold, noise, confined spaces)
- Ability to travel to company locations to work on storm restoration and heat contingencies
- Wear necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), i.e. fire-retardant clothing and safety harnesses
- Use personal vehicle(s), and be able to transport, store, and secure company laptops and other job-related equipment in vehicle. Acknowledge that reimbursement for use of personal vehicle is available through the company mileage procedure
- The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be available to work weekends, nights, and weekend when required
