Marathon Petroleum Company LP has an opening for a Personal Safety Professional at its refinery located in Salt Lake City, Utah. This position is located in the Environmental, Safety & Security (ESS) organization and reports to the Safety Supervisor. This position does include relocation.
Overview
This position will be the primary safety resource for an operations area team. The Safety Professional is responsible for a wide range of safety activities including program development and interpretation, conducting safety training, auditing, and corrective actions. The candidate should be familiar with OSHA standards. This position reports to the refinery Safety Supervisor.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide support as the point of contact person for an operations area team on all safety issues.
- Support the refinery as a technical resource for safety issues including interpretation of standards and regulations.
- Serve as the site SME for various refinery safety policies.
- Coordinate the SLC Refinery Area Team Auditing Program.
- Rotational on-call duty including weekends and holidays required.
- Develop, coordinate, and present various safety training courses to refinery personnel.
- Continuously assess safety risks within the area, develop and execute mitigation plans to address risks.
- Conduct field safety audits, assessments, and surveys.
- Engage with contractors to communicate safety expectations and help them meet Company objectives.
- Review work permits, correct deficiencies, identify improvement opportunities and help drive improvement.
- Provide safety related input in the development and review of operating procedures.
- Serve as an advocate for first line employees to help them safely complete work.
- Ensure OSHA regulatory compliance.
- Interact with refinery personnel to ensure safety procedures and regulations are followed.
- Support the refinery emergency response efforts as part of the Incident Command structure.
MINIMUM (REQUIRED) QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED required with 4 years of relevant experience, or bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with 2 years of relevant experience.
- Must be able to wear appropriate PPE in the refinery (respirator, SCBA, etc.) to be able to perform all tasks in the field.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Products: Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Must be authorized to work in the US on a full-time indefinite basis without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future
- A valid driver’s license is required
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with PowerBI or similar reporting/analytics system.
- Experience with implementing OSHA standards
- ASP or GSP and/ or on track for CSP certification
This position belongs to a family of jobs with increasing responsibility, competency and skill level. It is currently posted at a Grade 10-11 level. Actual position title and pay grade will be based on the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications.
