Purpose/Introduction
Chevron Phillips is seeking a Sr. Olefins Technical Support Engineer to join the Central Engineering organization in The Woodlands, TX. The position will work out of the Baytown, TX facility and provide support for multiple olefins facilities, including international sites, and the Olefins and NGL Businesses. This position is responsible for leading optimization, sustainability and continuous improvement efforts in our olefins plants and providing support for commercial and capital project initiatives. This position works in the Olefins Technology group and reports to the Olefins Technical Manager.
Responsibilities
- Implementing the Olefins Technology Team strategy for key initiatives
- Staying abreast of industry technology and innovation from 3rd party providers and various catalyst and technology vendors and applying the best technical solution for CPChem
- Leading and supporting initiatives that provide improvements in business profitability via improved benchmarking performance, unit yields, margin, feed slate selection, reliability, capacity, and energy efficiency
- Providing support of key projects in their area of expertise and optimizing technology selection for EHS, cost, margin, energy, and sustainability performance
- Supporting sustainability efforts for olefins, the Climate Action Plan and Marginal Abatement Cost Curve efforts, implementing strategy for decarbonization of olefins, and engaging 3rd party technology providers on low-carbon approaches
- Supporting sustainability aligned with the Alliance to End Plastic Waste efforts and plastics circularity
- Supporting olefins manufacturing facilities and Corporate Environmental in emission and criteria pollutant reduction strategies and initiatives (e.g. flaring reduction, flare flow management, NOx reduction)
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering or related discipline
- Minimum twelve (12) years' experience within process industry with a minimum of five (5) years' experience in olefins operations or technical positions
- Strong communication, team facilitation and stakeholder engagement skills
- Business acumen and the ability to influence management investment decisions
- Proven technology or manufacturing experience with demonstrated ability to apply process engineering skills
- Proven experience working with people in an operating plant
- Management of change experience with problem solving and troubleshooting experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to spend extended time in the Middle East supporting startup of a new world class olefins unit
- Previous experience in a technical or operations leadership position
