Overview

The Lyric Repertory Company, a professional theatre company at Utah State University in Logan, Utah, seeks a Production Intern with practical experience in theatre production. The position is seasonal and full-time with onsite residency required. 

Responsibilities

This internship is designed to give challenging, practical experience to enhance the student’s academic program, provide a well-rounded, hands on experience of how a show is executed through the different departments of a modern day scenic shop. Working with experienced carpenters and other scenic professionals will guarantee an understanding of team work and how each production department affects the final output of a project. Work alongside seasoned professionals, adhere to directions, timelines, tasks, and additional responsibilities as communicated by the Master Carpenter and Technical Director; participate in all areas of scenic construction, may work in other scenic related shops (paint, props) as needed; serve as run crew or assist concessions on all shows as assigned; assist with load-ins, cleaning, changeovers and strike week.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a university theatre or entertainment program.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong background in set construction and carpentry.
  • Strong understanding of theatre and production practices.
  • Run crew experience.
  • Strong willingness to learn.
  • Willingness to work at heights and tight places.

    This position requires considerable physical activity.  Employees must have sufficient strength to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position including heavy lifting (up to 75 lbs.) and/or pushing and pulling of heavy objects. Employees must be prepared to assume uncomfortable positions, such as crawling, kneeling, and squatting.  Employees work outside and will not be protected from weather conditions, including extreme cold and extreme heat for extended periods.

    The Department of Theatre Arts offers a BFA in Performance, Design/Tech, and Theatre Education; a BA in Theatre (general studies); and an MFA with concentrations in Costume, Set, and Lighting Design. With approximately 100 students in the combined programs and a faculty that is continually active in the profession. The Department offers a robust slate of productions during the Utah State Theatre academic season. The professional arm of the Department is the Lyric Repertory Company, which provides USU students the opportunity to transition their craft from the academy to the profession, with productions during the summer as well as the academic year.
