Civil Engineering Technician Intern

Houston Engineering, Inc. (HEI) is looking for a Survey and Civil Engineering Technician student who is ready to take their classroom knowledge and put it to practice in the real world. The Survey and Civil Engineering Technician Intern will receive mentorship and guidance through a variety of projects. These projects will serve as a solid foundation for your future career. 

Job Description

As an intern, responsibilities may include some or all the following:

• Construction observation duties and documenting construction activities into a daily log.
• Communicate with contractors and the project manager regarding the construction activities.
• Assist Engineers and Senior Designers with project design, construction plan development while working in engineering related software such as Topo Dot – Micro Station, AutoCAD Civil3D and ArcGIS.
• Gather field survey data to determine precise location and measurements of points, elevations, and contours, etc. by operating electronic survey instruments such as GPS and Total Station.
• Feature extracting line work from the LiDAR point cloud.
• Travel to various jobsites to obtain necessary survey data and jobsite information.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Management, GIS, or Land Surveying program from an accredited post-secondary institution.
• Completed coursework in general surveying and AutoCAD are preferred.
• Able to work extended periods of time in outdoor conditions.
• Above average math and communication skills.
• Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
