Video Journalist (Level 1 Journalist - Temp Guild)

Reuters Video News is looking for a dynamic and talented Video Journalist for a TEMPORARY position based in Washington, D.C.

About the Role

As Video Journalist (Level 1 Journalist - Temp), you will:

• Produce, edit, write, and deliver live and edited coverage of breaking news stories, as well as coverage of compelling and creative feature stories.  On any given weekday, the work hours of the successful applicant may shift depending on the timing of news events. Occasionally, some weekend work, as well as workdays of an extended duration, may be required.
• Coverage will typically include events at the White House, Capitol Hill, the federal courts, the various agencies of the U.S. government, as well as other events in the District of Columbia and the surrounding region.  The successful applicant may also be assigned occasionally to coverage elsewhere in the United States and Canada.
• Shoot video of events and feature stories using broadcast-quality video camera, DSLR, GoPro, and other camera equipment.
• Work autonomously when shooting, while collaborating with multimedia and video packaging teams to produce comprehensive reporting 
• Work autonomously when shooting, while collaborating with colleagues within Reuters Text to cover stories such as climate change, technology, entertainment, and sports.

About You

You're a fit for the role of Video Journalist (Level 1 Journalist - Temp) if you have:

• Demonstrable experience in TV / digital newsgathering and production, with a track record of working with desk and field producers and the ability to operate independently.
• Familiarity with additional newsgathering video equipment, such as a drone, a Gimbal and a GoPro, will be considered an advantage.
• Fluency in video editing. (We use Premiere).
• Experience in delivering live video for television and /or digital audiences.
• Experience in the shooting still photographs will be considered an advantage.
• Experience conceiving of and executing feature stories 
• Employ a strong sense of teamwork
• Willingness to deploy within the Washington DC region and other parts of the U.S. and Canada with short notice to cover breaking news. 
• An understanding of Reuters’ broadcast and digital clients, both domestically and internationally.
• A commitment to accuracy and speed, while upholding Thomson Reuters editorial principles, is a must.

Thomson Reuters complies with local laws that require upfront disclosure of the expected pay range for a position. The base compensation range varies across locations. Eligible office location(s) for this role include one or more of the following: New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and/or Irvine, CA; McLean, VA; Washington, DC. The base compensation hourly range for the role in any of those locations is $40 - $72/hr.
