POSITION SUMMARY STATEMENT:   

The Advanced Practice Provider in neurointerventional radiology is responsible for the coordination of care for people with vascular disorders of the brain, head and neck, or spine. They see patients independently and occasionally alongside the neuroradiologist. The Advanced Practice Provider will provide a thorough exam, provide pre- and post-op teaching, write prescriptions, triage, consent the patients, round and discharge at the hospital, and help prevent or treat any issues. 

 

On the inpatient nursing unit, this position will coordinate the patients care and assist the neuroradiologist in directing the pre- and post-operative nursing care for these patients.  The major functions in this environment consist of patient assessment, writing medication and treatment orders and performing, or directing specific tasks.  Daily and rotating inpatient rounding is expected in this position. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Education, Experience or Equivalent Combination:
    • Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program.
    • Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner.
  • Licensure/ Registration/ Certification:
    • Current BLS certification
    • Current ACLS certification
    • Current DEA certification (verified during credentialing process)
    • AND
    • Physician Assistant:
      • Licensed as a PA with the Minnesota Board of Medical Practice
      • NCCPA certification
      • Approved by Minnesota Board of Medical Practice for prescription writing privileges (verified during credentialing process)
    • OR
    • Nurse Practitioner:
      • Currently licensed as an APRN by the Minnesota Board of Nursing
      • Currently licensed as a RN by the Minnesota Board of Nursing
      • AANP certification 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, with peers, students and other health care personnel.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to manage multiple simultaneous tasks and prioritize appropriately.
  • Ability to document patient notes and orders using EPIC.  
  • Knowledge of personal computers and appropriate software.
  • Ability to access and analyze pertinent information to make care decisions. 
  • Must be able to work flexible hours.
  • Must be able to travel to Methodist Hospital, Regions Hospital, and the Health Partners Neuroscience Center. 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Education, Experience or Equivalent Combination:
    • 1-2 years’ experience in neurointerventional radiology in hospital or outpatient environment which includes seeing patients independently. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:  

  1. (30%) – Responsible for assisting the neuroradiologist in the care of neurointerventional surgery patients pre and post operatively on the nursing units
    • Coordinates the management of care with the neuroradiologist, related services, and nursing staff for neurointerventional surgery patients.
    • Maintains knowledge of current pre & post-operative care.
    • Writes orders for medications and treatments as necessary to facilitate pre- and post-operative care.
    • Completes discharge order set and dictates discharge summaries in a timely manner to facilitate discharge.
    • Daily and rotating inpatient rounding is expected in this position.
    • Obtains, consults, and collects pertinent patient information.
    • Coordinates the admitting process, H&P and other key coordination duties.
    • Maintains and review patient records, charts, and other pertinent information. Documents in the EMR.
    • Discusses and develops diagnosis and pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic treatment plans with staff physician, on both inpatient and outpatient patients.
    • Educates patient and family on the diagnosis, treatment, and recovery process including prescribed medications.
  2. (30%) – Aids in the transition of patients to ensure continuity of the patient to the outpatient clinic setting independently and with clinic staff, APCs, and neuroradiologists.
