JOB SUMMARY:

Jefferson County Water Reclamation Facility Maintenance Workers maintain the mechanical and electrical Water Reclamation Facilities’ machinery and related apparatus at lift stations. Employees in this job classification perform general and preventative maintenance on various equipment, stations, buildings, and locations throughout the Water Reclamation Facility, and assist in major plant repairs and installations under the guidance of a Senior Water Reclamation Facility Maintenance Worker. Employees in this class also assist with the fabrication of parts such as pump shafts, pistons, and other equipment parts by gathering tools, making measurements, and preparing materials. Work is performed primarily in and around Water Reclamation Facilities.

Jefferson County - $22.29 - $34.57 USD Hourly

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

The following are job-related qualifications that are required for employment consideration for this position:

  • Driver’s license.                           

  • Work experience performing preventive maintenance on industrial equipment including pumps, blowers, gearboxes, etc.

  • Work experience using a variety of power tools (e.g., impact wrenches, saws, drills).   

TYPICAL JOB DUTIES:

  • Participates in the fabrication of machinery parts such as pump shafts, pistons, and other equipment parts by using lathe, milling machines, and welding equipment.

  • Participates in major plant repairs and installations of pumps, grit systems, shafts, bar rakes, pipe fittings, plumbing, electrical controls and other Water Reclamation Facility equipment.

  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses problems with Water Reclamation Facility equipment by inspecting equipment, identifying root cause of problems, and determining solutions.

  • Performs general and preventative maintenance on various equipment, stations, buildings, and locations throughout the Water Reclamation Facility to ensure proper and safe plant operations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Job involves moderate physical exertion required for occasional prolonged periods of lifting, carrying, climbing, stooping, kneeling, or crouching. May involve occasional lifting of items or objects weighing up to 75 lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed primarily in and around Water Reclamation Facilities. Work involves the use of various hand and power tools such as hammers, screwdrivers, wrenches, drills, grinders, saws etc. Job may require exposure to biological and/or chemical hazards, including raw sewage. Job may also require exposure to airborne contaminants (e.g., dust, odors, smoke, toxic fumes).
