This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities.

The Senior Commodity Manager is the commercial owner of an assigned commodity within Blue Origin's production supply chain. You own the full commercial architecture — supplier portfolio strategy, pricing, dual-source coverage, capacity commitments, and make/buy positioning — from NPI through high-rate production.

You will build and manage a competitive global supply base, the majority of which is new to the program. Working closely with Supply Chain Engineers, Direct SCPMs, and cross-functional partners, you will identify best-in-class suppliers, execute competitive sourcing events, negotiate long-term commercial agreements, and ensure your supply base is operationally ready to meet takt targets at scale.

This role demands deep commercial and technical knowledge of manufacturing supply chains, a proven track record of building competitive supply bases from scratch, and the ability to operate with speed and rigor in a fast-paced, high-rate production environment.

Responsibilities:

Commodity Strategy & Portfolio Ownership

• Own the full commercial architecture for your commodity: supplier portfolio, pricing strategy, dual-source coverage, capacity commitments, and make/buy positioning from NPI through high-rate production
• Establish and maintain dual-source coverage for all critical parts; run regular competitive events to preserve pricing discipline and supply continuity at rate
• Support make/buy trade analysis with market data, supplier capability benchmarks, and should-cost models
• Develop and maintain commodity metrics and reporting: state-of-market, supplier performance scorecards, segmentation (grow/maintain/exit), lead time trends, and pricing vs. index

Competitive Sourcing & Commercial Negotiations

• Build a competitive global supply base — identify, assess, and onboard best-in-class suppliers; the majority are new to the program
• Conduct competitive sourcing events from global shortlists; analyze total landed cost including currency, INCOTERMS, duties, freight, and inventory carrying cost
• Negotiate Long-Term Agreements and Master Supply Agreements with indexed pricing, tooling ownership, capacity commitments, performance metrics, and commercial remedies
• Embed technical flowdowns — control plans, capability targets, tooling acceptance, process qualifications — into commercial agreements at the time of award

Supplier Development & Capacity Readiness

• Run capability and capacity assessments of current and prospective suppliers: financial health, throughput, technical capability, quality systems, and ability to scale to takt
• Lead suppliers through the structural changes required to scale: capacity expansion, tooling investment, EDI onboarding, quality system development, and run-at-rate validation
• Define EDI requirements, INCOTERMS, returnable packaging lanes, and logistics parameters in coordination with the logistics team; ensure commercial agreements reflect operational requirements
• Serve as the commercial escalation point for your commodity; resolve supplier performance issues in partnership with Supply Chain Engineering and Direct SCPMs

Cross-Functional and Executive Engagement

• Proactively surface supply base risks and countermeasures to program leadership ahead of schedule impact
