LOCATION: Rochester, NY


SUMMARY: The Corporate Analytical Lab Supervisor will oversee the operations of American Packaging Corporations Corporate Lab located in the Rochester NY facility. This role combines managerial responsibility of the laboratory with technical expertise of flexible packaging. This position is responsible for supporting all APC Centers of Excellence, Product Development, Sales, and Field Tech Service in detailed analysis of product samples. Most of the output of the lab is for internal use, however there are customer interactions and communications as well.

This role involves managing and developing laboratory staff, providing leadership and training, keep all SOP’s and documentations up to date, support the hiring process for interns and coops. The Corporate Laboratory Manager collaborate with all departments on product development. 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Conduct standardized and customized testing related to flexible packaging accurately and in a timely manner – this role includes daily testing to complete lab requests along with managing the lab
  • Monitor and implement laboratory safety protocols to meet and exceed APC’s safety expectations
  • Develop and implement testing plans for package and structure analysis and document composition and physical properties to assist development of new APC products
  • Proficient in analytical, logical, systematic, and statistical thinking
  • Communicate effectively with the leadership team, technical managers, engineers, sales, customers, and suppliers
  • Provide mentorship and training to Coops, Interns, and Technical Specialists
  • Ability to understand the goal of a lab request and translate into technical testing requirements
  • Maintain an archive of analyzed competitive structures.
  • Coordinate with other labs, including APC and external labs, to have testing completed.
  • Recommend / research new equipment and instruments, and draft capital requests
  • Conduct periodic audits of lab equipment accuracy and repeatability.
  • Obtain training and maintain skills in conducting and interpreting complex analytical tests- GC, FTIR, DSC, etc.
  • Conduct product compatibility, abuse resistance, failure analysis, and other tests and investigations in support of Field Service, Quality, and Technical. 
  • Write and maintain Standard Operating Procedures pertaining to analytical equipment as needed.
  • Maintain laboratory consumables and supplies (i.e.: PPE’s, glass ware, calibration standards, equipment accessories, chemicals, etc…)
  • Support and follow all plant Safety Rules, GMPs, and other procedural training requirements.
  • The ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE 

Bachelor of Science or Master’s degree in a relevant scientific field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.


LANGUAGE SKILLS
