HSE (Health, Saftey & Environment) Associate - Vegetable Seed - Oxnard, CA 

 

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

As a HSE (Health, Safety and Environment) Specialist for Bayer's vegetable seed team, you  will partner with the HSE lead and other team members to improve workplace safety. Your responsibilities will involve assessing work environments, systems and processes to review and improve safety. You will have the opportunity to work cross functionally with various internal stakeholders to successfully maintain HSE requirements and goals and promote an incident-free workplace through identifying and mitigating risk.

 

This is a dayshift, onsite work role in our Oxnard, CA location.

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, HSE Specialist , are to:

 

  • Conduct incident/accident investigations, root cause analysis, reporting and implement corrective actions;
  • Lead all aspects of hazardous waste management, including  but not limited to weekly inspections, storage, disposal, and waste minimization initiatives; Perform weekly audits and inspections of production areas;
  • Collaborate with other EHS team members production team to implement, update and maintain procedures, plans , processes, best practices, and safety standards;
  • Support Bayer's Fall Protection Program, Lock Out/Tag Out Program, Hearing Conservation Program, Respiratory Program, JSA (Job Safety Analysis) Program and Hazardous Material/Waste Handling Protocols;
  • Support the training program by assisting in development and delivery of EHS committees and teams and new hire orientation;
  • Ensure compliance with Federal, State, and local environmental safety, medical surveillance and sustainability laws, regulations, codes, rules, and consensus standards;
  • Maintain a departmental process to ensure workflow timelines for HSE events and action plans are adhered to;
  • Develop, implement, and maintain site specific Environmental Health & Safety policies;
  • Perform Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) assessments for all job task at the site;
  • Collaborates with management to complete job hazard analysis and PPE assessments; Recommend process and product safety features that will reduce employees’ exposure to chemical, physical, and biological work hazards.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in EHS or related field;
  • Work experience and acumen in OSHA, EPA, and state specific regulations and their compliance requirements;
  • Demonstrate a continuous improvement mindset that takes a proactive solution-oriented approach to identification of issues and solutions;
  • Proficient computer skills, especially in applications such as Excel, databases, Word, and web-based systems;
  • Experience with incident and learning system database applications such as Intelex;
  • Experience handling confidential information and sensitive issues in a diplomatic manner to ensure integrity and confidentiality;
  • Ability to be the key contact for operations personnel and able to build strong relationships by handling ESH inquiries;
  • Proactively collaborates at site level;
  • Ability to demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness and monitor own work to ensure quality.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with California OSHA regulations, DTSC, CUPA, AQMD, and other government agencies strongly preferred;
  • EHS certifications such as ASP/ CHST;
  • Bi-lingual English/Spanish.

 

Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $68,000 to $102,000. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc.. This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant’s location, market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications
