THE DEPARTMENT:

This position is in the Institutional Research, Planning & Analytics (IRPA) department, within the Division of Information Technology (IT). Under direction of the Associate Vice President, IRPA serves the university by providing leadership and support for institutional research, strategic planning, business intelligence, data visualization and predictive analytics. The office provides action-oriented data that helps decision-makers throughout the university foster student success and institutional effectiveness.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

University Course Evaluations

  • Under the direction of the AVP, support the administration of university course evaluation processes.
  • Review and refine established evaluation criteria to determine courses subject to evaluation, ensuring alignment with historical practices as well as current university and departmental policies.
  • Collaborate with colleges and relevant departments to verify the accuracy of evaluation data and manage access permissions appropriately.
  • Maintain and update the course evaluation system, including records, communications, evaluation forms, reports, and administrator access.
  • Document business processes comprehensively, in accordance with institutional policy, develop evaluation timelines, and ensure the accuracy and integrity of all course evaluation data.
  • Provide ongoing support to campus stakeholders by resolving issues and responding to inquiries.

Collect, Aggregate and Report Institutional Data

  • Collects, organizes, and analyzes data from various sources, including student records, surveys, and institutional databases.
  • Maintains data collection instruments, ensuring data integrity and accuracy.
  • Uses statistical software and analytical tools to conduct basic analysis and data interpretation.
  • Collaborates with Information Technology (IT) and data management teams to improve data collection, storage, and retrieval processes.
  • Prepares data visualizations, dashboards, charts, and graphs to communicate findings.
  • Provides support for institutional reports to external agencies, such as government bodies and accrediting organizations.
  • Provides support for internal reports to senior leadership, faculty, and staff.
  • Ensures compliance with reporting requirements and deadlines.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders to identify reporting needs and provide data-informed insights to support decision-making.

Other Institutional Research Support

  • Periodically update the department website to ensure timeliness and accuracy of information available to the campus and the public.
  • Supports research studies and evaluations to assess institutional effectiveness and student outcomes.
  • Supports institutional research assessments including surveys, questionnaires, focus groups, and other methods to collect data from students, faculty, and staff.
  • Conducts basic analysis and prepares reports summarizing findings.
  • Maintains a current awareness and understanding of research methodologies and preferred practices in institutional research.
  • Contributes to the development and implementation of data governance policies and procedures to ensure accuracy, consistency, and security of data.
  • Conducts data quality checks and audits to identify and resolve data discrepancies and anomalies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in a related field. Relevant education and/or experience which demonstrates acquired and successfully applied knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis
  • Foundational knowledge of data collection tools, higher education reporting conventions, and institutional research principles.
  • Skill in following guidelines and providing input and feedback.
  • Organizational and time management skills to plan, organize, and prioritize work.
  • Demonstrated communications and interpersonal skills to effectively present information in a diverse environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive information.
