Project Overview

Bechtel is building a semiconductor manufacturing plant in New Albany, Ohio. Bechtel will design and build Phase 1 of the Ohio One project, a total of 2.5 million square feet, including 600,000 square feet of cleanrooms. Construction will require as much steel as eight Eiffel Towers and as much concrete as the tallest skyscrapers.

 

Bechtel will strengthen future economic development in the region by partnering with the North America Building Trades Unions and suppliers to create several thousand new jobs and work with local education organizations to implement new training programs that will support the future talent pipeline.

 

Position Summary

Civil-Structural Field Engineer will report directly to the Lead CSA Field Engineer and assist the construction team in the technical aspects of the civil, structural, and architectural scope. Individual will provide direct support to superintendents and craft professionals, including, but not limited to, work package creation and maintenance, quality control, quantity verifications, material take-offs, material verifications, design change coordination, and general problem solving – all in support of meeting project cost and time schedules. 

 

Project involves a significant civil/structural scope with lots of mass concreting and heavy-duty steel reinforcement. Candidate should be well versed in concrete operations and American Concrete Institute (ACI) Codes and Standards. Experience in cold weather concreting, cast-in-place concreting, pre-cast structures, or drill concrete piers sought. Candidate should be able to proficiently work in high paced environments and manage change while upholding Bechtel Safety and Quality standards.

 

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates with engineering on constructability and design issues relating to commodity installations and work sequencing.
  • Provides field engineering support and assistance to superintendents, supporting personnel in meeting cost and time schedules, verifies materials, equipment, and quality, and assures results meet design requirements.
  • Develops work plans, coordinate material take-offs and requisitions, perform and document inspections, report progress, and resolve conflicts in design and construction related to the installation and testing of civil commodities.
  • Performs Civil Field Engineering activities including inspections, audits and planning to support the installation of formwork, rebar, concrete, structural steel, architectural, earthwork and performs rigging support and planning activities for material and equipment.
  • Assures procedural compliance, material control, and complete and thorough documentation of inspections for completed work.
  • Directs or performs preparation of quantity listings of field purchased material and equipment and initiates requisitions for field material purchases.
  • Supports preparation of construction drawings and schedules, design of temporary construction facilities and ensures preparation of as built drawings and other job plans.
  • Supports planning and delivery of construction materials and equipment, assuring that proper warehousing and storage exists to ensure environmental protection.
  • Review’s specifications, purchase orders, subcontracts, inspection reports, delivery schedules, instruction manuals, and technical data to assist and advise on site.
  • Oversees and coordinates subcontractor work efforts and subcontract changes and interfaces.
