About the role

The Junior Maintenance Technician performs mechanical maintenance and repair work at all three buildings on The Barrington campus. The position is highly customer focused, requiring quick response to system and equipment failures to ensure that the operations and comfort of the building tenants are never jeopardized.

 

Primary Responsibilities:
a.    Assist with maintaining the building and immediately respond to building emergencies.
b.    Respond to after hours and weekend on-call equipment failures or emergencies.
c.    Interface with tenants to address their respective needs and requests in a timely and cost-efficient manner.
d.    Assist with facilities build-outs (offices, labs, etc.) utilizing various construction methods and materials. Assignments can include construction demolition, drywall framing and finishing, systems furniture assembly, painting, installation of floor coverings, and suspended ceiling systems.
e.    Perform basic electrical work: Assignments include the replacement of ballasts and lamps and assisting with the installation of conduits, wire ways, and the wiring of basic electrical devices.
f.    Perform basic plumbing repairs: Assignments include the installation of various types of piping (copper, PVC, and iron) and repairing and installing various plumbing fixtures and equipment.
g.    Perform various moves and relocations: Assignments include moving/relocating offices, production and laboratory equipment and various other materials.
h.    Pick up supplies and materials as directed and in support of daily operations.
i.    Perform lawn and landscape tasks such as mowing, trimming, pruning, and weeding.
j.    Perform snow removal and de-icing tasks such as shoveling, snow blowing, salting, and minor plowing.
k.    Perform general maintenance duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications Needed:

  • EDUCATION: High School diploma or equivalent. 
  • TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Demonstrated ability to perform the listed functions effectively under minimal supervision. One to three years of related work experience. Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • OTHER SKILLS: Familiarity with MS Office, MS Excel, MS Word, and MS PowerPoint, familiarity with the operation of maintenance related tools and equipment.
  • INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Must have the ability to build positive relationships with the building tenants and coworkers. Must be versatile with a willingness to quickly shift direction as required by changing priorities.
  • ORAL: Must possess oral skills to clearly present information to management, coworkers, and tenants.
  • WRITTEN: Must be able to prepare emails using clear and understandable terms.

 

Compensation: $18.50 per hour.
