About the role

SENIOR ANALYST, CONSUMER INSIGHTSHachette Book Group is seeking a solutions-focused Senior Analyst to join the Executive Marketing Strategy department, reporting to the Executive Director, Consumer Engagement and Marketing Operations. The ideal candidate will be responsible for synthesizing complex data sets from multiple ecosystems into clear, actionable market insights. Working closely with marketing, editorial, publishing, and eCommerce stakeholders, this pivotal role will uncover trends, measure performance, identify growth opportunities, guide decision-making through compelling data storytelling. You will bring technical expertise and business acumen to the role, with the ability to distill data into narratives that support creative and commercial objectives in a fast-paced publishing environment. The role is NYC based; HBG's current hybrid working model is three days in the office per week.  Responsibilities include: 
  • Collect, clean, and analyze data from multiple sources—including sales systems, marketing platforms, website analytics, social media and commerce tools—to uncover trends and guide strategy.
  • Create and maintain recurring reports, while supporting ad hoc analyses and deep dives into key business questions.
  • Research and analyze market trends, cultural shifts, and consumer shopping behavior to inform strategic planning and content development.
  • Translate complex quantitative and qualitative data into clear, compelling visualizations, reports, and presentations tailored for marketing, editorial, and publishing stakeholders.
  • Evaluate category performance, backlist trends, author impact, and campaign effectiveness, partnering with teams across the organization to drive data-informed decisions.
  • Leverage data and frameworks to deepen understanding of Hachette Book Group consumers, including building data-informed customer personas that guide and inform marketing, editorial, and product strategies.
  • Assess consumer value by calculating and maintaining metrics such as Customer Lifetime Value (CLV), Average Lifetime Value (ALV), and other eCommerce indicators, using these insights to shape strategic direction.
  • Analyze cart behavior and purchasing patterns to identify opportunities for related products and inform the D2C product roadmap, with a focus on maximizing HBG’s extensive catalog.
  • Contribute to the design and development of a scalable Consumer Data Warehouse by defining analytical requirements and surfacing data priorities.
  • Champion a data-driven culture by identifying opportunities to improve data processes and proactively delivering insights that influence business storytelling and strategic planning.
Qualifications 
  • 5 - 7 years of experience in an analyst or data-focused role, preferably in publishing, media, or consumer products
  • Technically skilled in data manipulation and visualization, with attention to accuracy and clarity.
  • Experience in data visualization tools such as Tableau, Looker, Power BI, Micro Strategy, or similar platforms.
  • Experience using data analytics tools and languages such as SQL, Python, and R proficiency a plus. 
  • Proficiency in social listening and market research tools such as YouGov, Qualtrics, Brandwatch, Soprism, Meltwater, or similar platforms 
  • Familiarity with marketing platforms (e.g., Google Analytics, email CRMs, paid ad metrics) is a plus 
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills—able to explain complex topics clearly to non-technical stakeholders 
  • Strong critical thinking skills, attention to detail, and a collaborative mindset
