Job Description
SUMMARY
The part engineering team of Chromalloy Castings Tampa focuses on the details of manufacturing quality aerospace gas turbine engine components (primarily hot section blades & vanes) from the position of part ownership and responsibility through all of the manufacturing process steps involved in investment casting of nickel-based superalloys. Part-based teams are comprised of a product engineer, who focuses on the internal and external dimensions of the component, and a process engineer, who is responsible for the material quality of the component.
This position focuses on the process engineering aspect of part ownership. Primary tasks include:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Creating the Manufacturing Process Workflow
- Developing the Wax Assembly
- Determining the Shell Build Recipe
- Selecting the Dewax and Burnout Processes
- Evaluating and Optimizing the Casting Process
- Establishing the Rough Material Removal, Core Removal Processes
- Verifying the Heat Treatment Process
- Developing the Process Routing Steps
- Creating Engineering Instructions for the Router for the Above Processes
- Initiating and Tracking Engineering Trials
- Coordinating with Operations In Both Part Development and Production
- Troubleshooting Poor Quality Towards Yield Improvements
- Other duties as assigned.
A key task of the process engineer revolves around making the metal components through melting and pouring alloy and controlling the solidification in technologically complex vacuum furnaces. At CCTC, there are 2 primary processes: directional solidification, from which directionally solidified (DS) or single crystal (SX) components are produced; and equiaxed (EQ) components.
A Senior Process Engineer will have experience with casting processes and the fundamentals of casting solidification and microstructure development. The preferred candidate will understand and have produced directionally solidified castings and have knowledge of grain nucleation and growth, and those process variables and options that control the casting solidification characteristics.
Qualifications
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Engineering Degree or Background of Equivalent Experience, especially with a broad knowledge of metalcasting, and use of engineering fundamentals such as the various physics that drive and control the various casting processes.
- User of Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook)
- Familiarity with Six Sigma Methods and Tools, and Associated Engineering Statistical Methods
- Self-Motivated Characteristics with Responsibility Ownership
- US Citizen / Permanent Resident (ITAR Regulations)
LANGUAGE SKILLS
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret blueprints, customer specifications, general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Must be able to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
- Strong statistical and computer skills are required for data analysis such as calculating product capability analyses.
REASONING ABILITY
- Ability to troubleshoot manufacturing problems, collect data, establish facts, and perform root cause analysis. Will be required to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.
