The Boeing Company is currently seeking a Lead Software Engineer to join the Boeing Flight Management (BFMS) Data Link Application Software team located in Plano, TX. The Data Link Application of the Flight Management System enables communication between ground (Air Traffic Management and Airlines, e.g.) and the aircraft. This position will support the Boeing AvionX organization which develops and maintains a family of avionics products for Boeing airborne platforms.
The selected individuals will work within the multi-site, international software engineering team and interface with the airplane system engineering team to lead the development of airborne-side datalink communication software, ensure application of industry and Boeing standards, and assure compliance with regulatory requirements.

This position may require up to 10% travel
Position Responsibilities:
Lead the development, integration, and verification of Flight Management System (FMS) High Level Requirements, Low-Level Requirements, Design, and Code in compliance with DO-178C.
Coordinate on the development of FMS test procedures and test environments, executing the test procedures and documenting test results to ensure software system requirements are met.
Provide technical leadership and representation for a global team of FMS SW engineers. Represent this team and it’s work to stakeholders, including engineering leadership, program leadership, and regulators.
Lead development and tailoring of processes, tools, and metrics. For example, lead efforts to specify simulation and test environment requirements, decide workflow and configuration of tools (e.g., LDRA, Bamboo, Polyspace), and develop standards.
Serve as a subject matter expert for software domains, system-specific issues, processes and regulations. For example, consult on optimal design patterns for real-time embedded systems, lead and consult on efforts to certify according to DO-178C, lead efforts to create and troubleshoot SW development and test infrastructure.
Track and evaluate software team performance to ensure product and process conformance to project plans and industry standards. Lead daily stand-ups; decompose and assign SOW; create and maintain daily, weekly, and recovery plans; and lead technical reviews.
Train and mentor engineering teammates. Seek and be open to mentoring relationships; seek, compile, and communicate best practices; and help maintain a culture of continuous professional development.
Work under consultative direction.
This position is hybrid. This means that the selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options. This is at the hiring team’s discretion and could potentially change in the future.
This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required. “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):
Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
10+ years of experience in full software development life-cycle
5+ years ofexperience with C/C++ software for real time embedded system
3+ years of experience in technical leadership
3+ years of experience with applying or working within guidelines of RTCA DO-178 standard, Software Considerations in Airborne Systems and Equipment Certification
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Master’s degree in a program of STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics)
