Middle Market Underwriter-Great Lakes Region Cincinnati, OH

Sentry is continuing to grow in Regional! This great Underwriting opportunity will work with our new Great Lakes Region in Cincinnati, OH and is a great opportunity for an experienced middle-market commercial lines insurance underwriter to advance to the next step in their career. This position can be filled at the Underwriter Senior, Underwriter Specialist, or Underwriter Specialist Sr level depending on qualifications and experience.

This role will work with our Great Lakes Regional Office and will transition to a hybrid work schedule sometime in 2025, requiring in-office days in Cincinnati, OH.

What You’ll Do

Our Underwriters within Sentry’s Regional unit work closely with independent agents to underwrite, price and program individual policies/accounts.  You will:

• Underwrite multi-line middle market accounts

• Provide feedback to agency partners and underwriting management regarding trends and issues within their assigned territory, and provide solutions

• Work with other business functions to ensure service and quality objectives are met

• Demonstrate an understanding of the insurance marketplace and emerging industry issues

• Complete assigned project work requiring a high level of technical knowledge

• Perform other job-related duties including training, presenting, attending sales meetings, traveling to agents, participating in audits, and covering desks for other Underwriters

• Work closely with independent agents to obtain information needed to properly underwrite, price, and program individual policies/accounts

• Work on the more complex underwriting assignments, through the use of manuals, established procedures, and information collected. Refer business outside of authority limit

• Be responsible for underwriting of the more complex, larger accounts and reinsurance placements.

• Evaluate established procedures for effectiveness and recommend change

• Perform other job-related duties requiring the same general knowledge, skills, and degree of responsibility commensurate with assigned level.

What it Takes

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience

• 2+ years of related work experience underwriting middle market accounts for an Underwriter Sr

• 5+ years of related work experience underwriting middle market accounts for an Underwriter Specialist

• 8+ years of related work experience underwriting middle market accounts for an Underwriter Specialist Sr

• Previous Commercial Property Casualty insurance underwriting experience

• Completed or in-process insurance courses such as IIA and/or CPCU preferred

• Demonstrated knowledge of commercial multi-line product line insurance concepts and terminology

• Comprehensive knowledge of reinsurance procedures

• Effective analytical, human relations and communication skills

• Ability to meet limited travel requirements
