What You Will Be Doing

The Office Assistant 2 answers the main phone for the Office of Public Advocacy (OPA), greets clients and the general public, and performs a wide range of reception services on behalf of the Anchorage office. These services include receiving and prioritizing inquires and incoming and outgoing mail; sorting and preparing daily court documents for delivery; electronic filing; redacting confidential information; and other duties as assigned.

The Office of Public Advocacy provides legal advocacy and guardianship services to vulnerable Alaskans. With offices in Anchorage, Juneau, Fairbanks, Kenai, Palmer, and Bethel, OPA advocates for abused and neglected children in protective proceedings; provides public guardianship for incapacitated adults; and provides court-appointed attorneys for respondents in adult guardianship proceedings, parents in child in need of aid cases, and defendants in criminal cases.

The OPA Anchorage office is located in beautiful downtown Anchorage, Alaska. We are located near the courthouse and directly across from the Captain Cook hotel. We offer free parking and are in walking distance from many restaurants and coffee shops.

Examples of duties

High school diploma or the equivalent.
AND
One year of experience that includes clerical tasks such as greeting clients, answering phones, typing, filing, sorting mail, entering data, receiving payments, making change, or maintaining logs.

Substitution:
Education from an accredited college may substitute for the required experience (3 semester hours or 4 quarter hours equal one month of experience; 150 hours of vocation education equal one month of experience).

Special Note:
"High school diploma equivalent" means one of the following: 1) a G.E.D.; 2) completion of any basic adult education course equivalent to 480 class hours (16 weeks at 30 course hours per week); 3) acceptance in full standing by an accredited college or university; 4) highest grade of school completed plus an amount of paid or volunteer experience that totals 12 years and includes basic clerical tasks such as greeting clients, answering phones, typing, filing, sorting mail, entering data, receiving payments, making change, or maintaining logs.
