The Regional Manager, Government Affairs, is a strategic leader responsible for managing and advancing the organization's legislative and regulatory priorities across a multi-state region. This role requires deep policy acumen, an ability to navigate complex political landscapes, and a proven track record of influencing public policy in the healthcare sector. The ideal candidate will be skilled at relationship-building, possess exceptional communication abilities, and have experience mentoring and managing advocacy professionals.
Key Responsibilities
Lead Government Affairs Strategy:
Develop and execute multi-state advocacy strategies to advance the organization’s healthcare policy goals at the state level, including legislative and regulatory engagement.Policy Influence & Representation:
Represent the organization before state legislators, executive agencies, and regulatory bodies; develop positions on legislation and regulations that align with corporate priorities.Stakeholder Engagement:
Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with policymakers, health departments, industry coalitions, trade associations, and key opinion leaders across the region.Mentorship & Team Leadership:
Supervise and mentor Senior Government Affairs Specialists; support team development and ensure alignment with regional and national advocacy goals.Issue Monitoring & Response:
Monitor legislation, regulatory developments, and emerging political issues across assigned states; provide timely analysis and strategic recommendations to senior leadership.Collaboration & Communication:
Collaborate cross-functionally with legal, compliance, marketing, and clinical teams to ensure consistent messaging and policy alignment; contribute to the development of public policy collateral.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Political Science, Law, Healthcare Administration, or related field; Master’s or JD preferred.
7–10 years of government affairs or public policy experience, including direct lobbying and multi-state advocacy within healthcare, biotechnology, diagnostics, or a regulated industry.
Strong understanding of state legislative and regulatory processes.
Proven ability to build and maintain bipartisan relationships with lawmakers and health policy influencers.
Experience managing direct reports and mentoring high-performing advocacy teams.
Preferred Skills and Competencies
Deep understanding of healthcare policy issues, including diagnostics, reimbursement, access to care, and regulatory frameworks.
Strategic thinker with the ability to anticipate challenges and adapt quickly in a dynamic environment.
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Highly organized, self-directed, and able to manage competing priorities across multiple jurisdictions.
Willingness to travel regionally (30–50%) as needed.
