GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) in Pulmonary Medicine provides comprehensive outpatient care to adult patients with acute and chronic pulmonary conditions. This role functions collaboratively with pulmonologists and the multidisciplinary care team to deliver high-quality, evidence-based, patient-centered care in an ambulatory setting. The APP practices at the top of license with a focus on access, continuity, and quality outcomes.

Under the general guidance of the medical director, the Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant will evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients with diseases and adverse health conditions following the written guidelines approved by the department.

  • Full-time, Days
  • Current scheduling for this role is primarily weekdays. Future scheduling needs, including potential weekend coverage or call, may be adjusted based on patient care needs, program growth, and operational priorities. Flexibility may be required.
  • Primary location: Troy Beaumont Professional Office Building

Primary Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, diagnose, and manage adult patients with pulmonary conditions in an outpatient clinic setting
  • Manage chronic pulmonary diseases including but not limited to:

                        •           Asthma

                        •           COPD

                        •           Interstitial lung disease

                        •           Pulmonary nodules

                        •           Chronic cough

                        •           Dyspnea

  • Post-hospital and post-ICU pulmonary follow-up
  • Perform comprehensive histories and physical examinations
  • Order, interpret, and act upon diagnostic testing including: Pulmonary function tests (PFTs), Chest imaging (X-ray, CT), Sleep studies (as applicable), and Laboratory studies
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans
  • Prescribe medications and therapies in accordance with state regulations and clinical guidelines
  • Provide patient education regarding disease management, medications, and lifestyle modifications
  • Collaborate closely with supervising physicians, respiratory therapists, nurses, sleep medicine teams, and other specialists
  • Document patient encounters accurately and efficiently within the electronic medical record (EMR)
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical practice optimization
  • Support care coordination, transitions of care, and appropriate referrals
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory, safety, and institutional standards

STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS

Education / Training: 

  • Master's Degree in Nursing OR a Masters in Physician Assistant studies

Work Experience:

  • 1 to 3 years’ experience as an Advanced Practice Provider in pulmonary medicine, internal medicine, or critical care is preferred.
  • Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills
  • Excellent communication and patient engagement abilities

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating within a team-based model

Certification, Licensure, Registration:

  • State of Michigan Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant license required
  • AHA/ARC BLS certification required

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

            •           Strong foundation in adult pulmonary pathophysiology

            •           Ability to manage complex chronic conditions longitudinally
