Under broad supervision, responsible for developing and conducting moderately complex cost audits to support management in making operating decisions. Role typically requires between 3 and 5 years of experience.Summary: The Cost Accountant is responsible for product costing, product manufacturing analysis, and inventory valuation and reporting activities. Additionally, this role is responsible for maintaining and improving processes and controls associated with manufacturing costs and inventory valuations.
Essential Functions:
- Perform month end close activities related to Cost Accounting.
- Develop annual standard cost updates and ensure that changes are controlled and updated as needed.
- Direct the annual physical inventory at all three (3) locations. Reconcile counts to perpetual inventory balances and post adjustments.
- Responsible for the cycle counting programs at all three (3) locations including the investigation of major count variances to determine root causes.
- Maintains and reconciles perpetual inventory balances.
- Inventory Turns and Days on Hand reporting responsibilities.
- Responsible for obsolete inventory reporting, controls, and analysis. Partner with Sales & Marketing and Operations functions to reduce obsolescence occurrences.
- Provide production reporting leadership. Manufacturing variance reporting and analysis responsibilities include PPV, Material Usage Variances, and Inventory adjustments.
- Assist with development of BOM’s.
- Manage import of data into ERP system (Chempax).
- Conduct fixed asset physical inventories, one location per year on a rotating basis.
- Represent the Finance and Accounting Department on teams designed to improve operations, reduce cost, and reduce inventories.
- Fixed asset management consisting of new asset additions, old asset disposals, and fixed asset inventories.
Competencies:
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a focus on accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills required. Present information and respond to questions from various levels of the organization.
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP accounting and general accounting concepts.
- Project Management skills preferred.

- Continuous process improvement mindset.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
- Minimum of 7 years’ cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Advanced Excel skills to include, but not be limited to, proficiency in use of Pivot Tables and V-lookups.
- Hands on ERP experience preferred (Epicor a plus).
Travel:
- 15% - Travel to Newark, NJ and Honeoye Falls, NY locations.
