Staff Program Manager, Privacy & Trust

Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the Technical/Innovation Center in Warren (MI), Austin (TX), or Mountain View (CA) three times per week, at minimum. This position can be located at any of these 3 locations.

The Role

We are seeking a Staff Program Manager, Privacy & Trust to lead critical privacy initiatives across the organization. In this role, you will drive complex, high-priority programs that support global regulatory compliance and strengthen GM’s internal privacy infrastructure. You will work closely with legal, engineering, data governance, and product teams to ensure privacy standards are consistently implemented across all channels and systems.

This is a fast-paced, high-impact role that requires strategic thinking, cross-functional leadership, and the ability to manage programs with urgency and precision.

What You'll Do

  • Lead cross-functional privacy programs from strategy through execution, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, FTC orders, and internal privacy policies.

  • Collaborate with legal, data governance, public policy, marketing, and product teams to implement consistent and compliant privacy practices across all channels.

  • Develop detailed program plans, including scope, timelines, budgets, and risk mitigation strategies.

  • Coordinate internal and external resources to ensure timely, on-budget project delivery.

  • Ensure alignment between privacy goals, business objectives, and ethical data use across engineering, architecture, and vehicle teams.

  • Oversee multi-channel consent management and backend system compliance in alignment with legal and internal lifecycle management (ILM) policies.

  • Drive the creation and documentation of new processes and workflows to support evolving privacy initiatives.

  • Communicate program status, risks, and outcomes to senior leadership, escalating issues as needed for resolution.

Additional Job Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelors degree In Engineering, Business, Computer Science or related field

  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience

  • Minimum of 3 years of software project/program management experience

  • Knowledge of Privacy laws like EU Data Act, GDPR etc.

  • Experience leading projects with technical and non-technical teams

  • Experience defining, documenting, and providing guidance on processes

  • Experience developing and maintaining partnerships with third-party resources

  • Experience with Back-office Cloud based Privacy and Consent management platforms

  • Excellent presentation and communication skills

What will give you a competitive edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Program Management experience with Privacy and/or Legal is highly preferred

  • MBA or advanced degree

  • PMP Certification

  • Experience managing enterprise software programs

  • Experience administering and configuring Jira, Azure DevOps or similar tools

Compensation: The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws. The compensation may not be representative for positions located outside of the California Bay Area.

  • The salary range for this role is $143,000 to $258,800. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.

  • Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
