Job Summary
The Principal UX/UI Designer will be a hands-on leader with relevant consumer expertise to help lead and grow a UX/UI team supporting a pipeline of consumer facing health and wellness products and mobile apps. Responsible for the creation of UI flows and visual concepts that help end users easily use and understand first-on-the-market health data from breakthrough medical devices and sensors. Must understand business needs and product requirements and transform that understanding into user-focused and intuitive digital experiences for both medical device and mobile App platforms.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead projects, working closely with our product managers, marketers, human factors (HF) engineers, designers, strategists, software developers, and other key stakeholders to interpret business needs and collaborate in developing key products.
- Create experience maps, user scenarios, mockups, and flows. Collaborating with HF team to validate ideas and designs using split A/B tests and product performance.
- Design user-experiences from low-fidelity sketches to hi-fidelity pixel perfect mockups.
- Measure recently released product features to establish benchmarks and to identify potential areas of improvement.
- Be aware of cutting edge UX trends in the consumer world and looking for creative ideas and inspiration in parallel analogous worlds.
- Develop interactive reporting dashboards and different types of visualizations.
- Create rapid prototypes to validate design concepts with stakeholders and customers.
- Effectively communicate design principles and guidance, including design specifications to engineers
Minimum & Preferred Qualifications and Experience
Minimum Qualifications
- A minimum of 12 years of UX or interaction design experience; experience with responsive Mobile App design and frameworks that incorporate strong grid principles, (i.e. Bootstrap).
- Proven well-designed examples of responsive grid-based layouts. Strong work portfolio that demonstrates systematic and creative design thinking in consumer facing projects as well as a deep understanding of UI/UX best practices.
- Strong ability to recognize and predict use cases and user interaction, including happy path as well as edge and corner cases, and incorporate them into designs.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills (the ability to effectively sell an idea).
- Deep understanding of information design / architecture, gestalt principles, and user psychology.
- Ability to manage time wisely across projects and competing priorities, meet agreed upon deadlines, and be accountable for individual and team produced work.
- Proficiency in graphic design, motion graphics, digital art, a sensitivity to typography, color, and layout.
- Experience in working with a cross-functional team or large-scale software development lifecycle, including waterfall and agile methodologies.
- Demonstrated experience leading UX/UI teams on complex projects.
- Proficiency in Figma, Sketch, Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, MS Word and PowerPoint. In addition, experience with collaboration platforms such as Mural and Jira are a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
- The candidate should have a track record of leadership with the ability to direct a team on all aspects of UX and UI development including workflows, graphic design, typography, visual presentation development and layout Additionally the ideal candidate has technical experience in creating digital prototypes to be used in user testing and internal presentations.
- Possess an ability to learn quickly and formulate immediate solutions for product improvements and enhancements. This is because the consumer product market is constantly evolving and what will deliver complete satisfaction to the customer today will not be what delivers them satisfaction tomorrow. The position, therefore, requires the occupier to have a high level of creativity and fast adaptability to come up with prompt solutions and product approaches that continually delight the consumer in a volatile marketplace.
Education
Bachelor’s Degree in Product Design, Graphic and Visual Arts, Service Design, Interaction Design, Information Science, Industrial Design, Marketing, Computer Science, or any other degree in a functional field.
Compensation: The anticipated range for this position is $205,000 - $235,000. Actual placement within the range is dependent on multiple factors, including but not limited to skills, education, and experience.
