About the role

The Position

External innovation is a critical part of Roche's strategy, and the Corporate Business Development (CBD) function leads all efforts on the Pharma business development continuum starting from searching for and evaluating new partnering opportunities, to negotiating and executing deals (M&A and licensing), as well as managing alliances.

The Opportunity

As our new Search and Evaluation Lead for Oncology Corporate Business Development, you will be at the very center of our innovation sourcing efforts. You will be responsible for identifying and conducting the initial scientific review of new partnership opportunities that could shape the future of our oncology pipeline. This is a vital role where you will represent our company at the forefront of the industry, connecting with potential partners to find the most promising science.

  • Identify high-priority partnership opportunities through scientific monitoring, competitive intelligence, networking, and industry conferences.

  • Manage and coordinate the triage process for all incoming opportunities in oncology

  • Conduct landscape assessments and scientific monitoring in novel areas of innovation to stay ahead of the curve.

  • Provide scientific triage and analysis in the initial review of potential partnering opportunities to assess their fit with our R&D and commercial strategies.

  • Lead our business development preparations for major scientific and partnering conferences.

  • Build and maintain relationships with external biotechs, academic institutions, and the venture capital community.

  • Serve as an external ambassador for our partnering organization at industry events, and support the smooth transition of promising opportunities to further diligence activity.

Who You Are

You are a scientifically curious and self-motivated individual with a genuine passion for discovering novel science and following industry trends. Your collaborative, "can-do" attitude and excellent communication skills make you an ideal representative for our company. You are highly organized and thrive in a dynamic role that requires connecting with a wide variety of internal and external partners.

  • An advanced degree in biological or chemical sciences (e.g., PhD, PharmD, MD).

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in drug development or a related scientific role within the oncology therapeutic area.

  • A strong scientific acumen and the ability to analyze and critique new therapeutic opportunities.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate our company's value proposition to diverse audiences.

  • Experience in business development, search and evaluation, or a related capacity in the pharma or biotech industry is preferred. 

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, California is $116,800 - $216,800.  Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
