Job Description
The University of Nevada, Reno is recruiting for a Custodial Worker 1 for the Facilities Maintenance Services (FMS) Department. This position is a member of a team of Custodial Workers and will be responsible for performing daily, weekly, and project cleaning to assigned buildings.
Duties include (but are not limited to):
Cleaning restrooms;
Mopping and vacuuming floors;
Snow removal;
Emptying trash;
Stocking and maintaining supplies;
Removing graffiti;
Wiping and dusting vertical and horizontal surfaces;
Performing annual maintenance;
Waxing floors;
Cleaning carpets; and
Other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications
This position requires graduation from high school or equivalent education and six (6) months of custodial or janitorial experience in a commercial, industrial, hospital, governmental or similar environment; OR
Six (6) months of general work experience and six (6) months of custodial or janitorial experience in a commercial industrial, hospital, governmental or similar environment; OR
Six (6) months of experience as a Custodial Worker Trainee in Nevada State service; OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
A valid Class “C” driver’s license or higher operator’s license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
Physical Demands
This position requires working with and around hazardous building materials containing asbestos, solvents and cleaning chemicals; an increased exposure to germs; frequent lifting, climbing and moving; requires the use of a backpack vacuum and restroom floor machine; and exposure to hot and cold temperatures when working outside.
This position requires walking or standing to a significant degree; pushing and/or pulling; exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
This position requires the ability to see, hear, and communicate through speech.
Schedule
The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 4:00 pm to 12:30 am; this is subject to change based on organizational needs.
This position is part of the Facilities Services Weather Essential Personnel and may be required to report to work for their regularly scheduled shift without any phone/cell phone notification; and is subject to a variable workweek schedule.
This position is designated as Essential Personnel. In the event of a campus emergency, special event, closure to maintain campus safety or building operations, this position may be required
