The role is for building next generation capabilities in cloud while maintaining existing services. The candidate should have the technical expertise to develop with minimal guidance. We are looking for the highest levels of technical talent and programming skills, as well as a keen desire to deeply understand our platform to push our technology forward with respect to functionality, performance, reliability, and scalability.

Meet our team:

The Data Services and Caching group team is responsible for providing the Data access capabilities for PayPal developers. We design, develop, enhance components that get called across every interaction between PayPal components and datastores. We are responsible for scalability, high availability, and reliability of datastores utilized within PayPal.

Job Description:

Essential Responsibilities:

• Delivers complete solutions spanning all phases of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) (design, implementation, testing, delivery and operations), based on definitions from more senior roles.
• Advises immediate management on project-level issues
• Guides junior engineers
• Operates with little day-to-day supervision, making technical decisions based on knowledge of internal conventions and industry best practices
• Applies knowledge of technical best practices in making decisions

Minimum Qualifications:

• Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience and a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualification:

• 5 + years of backend development experience and a bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field. 
• Proficiency in at least one backend language (Java, Python, Ruby on Rails) 
• Advanced proficiency in backend development with either Java EE frameworks, including experience with Spring MVC, or Hibernate.  
• Experience designing and implementing RESTful services, focusing on scalability and reliability, using Java. 
• Proven ability to mentor junior engineers and contribute to code reviews and design discussions. 
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) 
• Experience with databases (SQL, NoSQL) 
• Strong understanding of database design, including SQL and NoSQL databases, and experience with ORM tools. 
• Experience with large-scale, high-performance systems. 
• Knowledge of the payment processing industry and relevant regulations.
