1st Class Shipfitter

Tradesmen International is immediately hiring experienced 1st Class Shipfitters for projects located in and around Newport News, VA.  This is a first shift opportunity with a pay range of up to $45/hour based on experience plus $140/Per Diem to Travelers 60+ miles from the job site.  If you are a Shipfitter and want to work alongside other proven craftsmen who emphasize safety, productivity and superior craftsmanship, this is your chance to advance your career! 

 

Job Scope:

• Multi-Pass Tack Welding
• Burning & Heating Oxygen/Propane Burning Torch
• Layoff Piece Parts for Fabrication and Assembly
• Assemble Structural Piece Parts in Accordance with Specifications
• Air Carbon Arc Gouging
• Erect, Set, and Makeup Complex Shaped Shell Plates, Decks, Bulkheads, Longitudinal, Trunks, etc.
• Install and Replace Hull Inserts and Penetrations, Miscellaneous and Complex Foundations
• Rigger, Material Handling
• Tank Testing
• Mobile Equipment Operation (JLG, Scissor Lift, etc.)
• Other Tasks as Assigned

Requirements:

• • Minimum of 4 Years of Commercial/Naval Experience as a First Class Shipfitter
  • Experience must be Documented on Advanced Shipfitter Summary Sheet Prior to Arrival
  • Able to Pass Various Weld Tests
  • Ability to Comprehend Complex Structural Assembly Drawings, Blueprints, and Sketches to include Weld Symbols, Material Types Datum, and Reference Lines
  • Ability to Comprehend Fractional Dimensions as with the use of a Ruler
  • Experience Working in a Physically Demanding Environment, Shipbuilding, Steel Fabrication, etc.
  • Familiarity with OSHA Regulations relative to the Shipbuilding Industry
  • Ability to use Work Packages, Drawings, Molded Lines, and Ship Reference Lines to Execute Work
