General Description:
The Senior Data Solutions Cloud Engineer is responsible for the configuration, provisioning and management of all Azure and on-premises resources related to the firm’s data platforms and associated initiatives in artificial intelligence (AI) and data sciences. This role contributes to the implementation and on-going support of the firm’s initiatives to develop and scale the data platform, including data sciences and AI tools, to our lawyers and business departments.
This role within our Data Strategy function partners closely with the Information Technology department and other business units in the development and delivery of the firm’s innovative data and AI solutions. This role contributes to data modernization and digital transformation programs, provides technical support, and serves as the primary contact for internal resources, such as the Information Technology department for data platform infrastructure issues.
Key Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions:
- Design, plan and implement new technologies and major releases for enterprise-wide Data Strategy projects which includes the Data Platform, AI and Data Sciences initiatives and related infrastructure to support and meet business needs in collaboration with firm Networking and Security teams.
- Design the various cloud platforms in conjunction with on-prem services supporting the multiple application stacks that run the business.
- Provide subject-matter-expertise for current and future planning, technical architectures, models and standards.
- Work closely with the other members of the architecture team to ensure a cohesive enterprise technology strategy and direction.
- Provide expert level technical support and ensure reliable operation of cloud production.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot the most complex issues for cloud computing systems on multiple platforms.
- Maintain comprehensive technical knowledge of software and infrastructure platforms.
- Develop technical standards.
- Review and update technical documents.
- Review configuration parameters to optimize system performance and maximize operation uptime.
- Act as a steward for all deployment patterns and documentation.
- Elevate code into the development, test, and production environments on schedule.
- Set up and maintain processes for code review and deployment pipelines.
- Provide follow up production support. Submit change control requests and documents.
- Identify, recommend, and implement opportunities for improvement and performance issue solutions.
- Learn and understand firm’s business functions and requirements. Determine the appropriate technical tool to address business needs.
- Train and mentor more junior staff on processes and technologies.
- Troubleshoot and resolve the most complex issues elevated from staff.
- Provide guidance and consultation as required.
- Update, write, and maintain documentation for the department.
- Administer system activities, such as writing technical documentation of assigned deliverables, perform systems analysis, including system requirements analysis and definition, and logical design.

Required Skills:
- Have an understanding of Data Engineering skills to collaborate with Platform and Data Engineering teams to streamline the software/data development lifecycle (SDLC).
- Expert level skill in cloud architecture design.
Required Qualifications & Education:
- 10+ years’ experience in a law firm, corporate legal department, or professional services environment
- 5+ years high level cloud and on-prem infrastructure design.
- Undergraduate degree in a related field.
- In-Depth knowledge in Azure multi-cloud / hybrid environments (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS) and migrating on-premises applications and services to those platforms.
- Experience with the Microsoft 365 suite including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, and OneDrive for Business.
- Experience with IAM, authentication and authorization of applications using Entra, Azure AD, OAuth, (SAML/OAuth/OIDC), MFA and RBAC.
- Proficiency in infrastructure as code (IaC) and configuration management tools (e.g., Power-shell, Terraform, Azure CLI, Ansible).
- Strong working knowledge of LAN/WAN/SDWAN concepts as they relate to hybrid environments.
