JOB FUNCTION:

Supervises the day-to-day operations of the Watch Office responsible for monitoring, assessing, and reporting incidents, accidents, and significant events across the company. Evaluates the scope and impact of incidents, informs leadership teams and recommends escalation, when necessary. Provides 24/7 situational awareness and hazard monitoring. Able to work on a shift schedule to provide 24/7 coverage.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Manages the 24/7 operational management of the Watch Office daily activities. Ensures that monitoring and notification procedures are adhered to and complies with legal and regulatory requirements to meet organizational needs and objectives.
  • Develops goals and objectives for the Watch Office that integrate the company’s objectives.
  • Evaluates fire and environmental risks and weather data for Public Safety Power Shut Off (“PSPS”) recommendations.
  • Develops and maintains standardized reporting and notification formats. Ensures that the information is appropriately distributed to key stakeholders and on an ad hoc basis.
  • Trains and develops staff by providing timely feedback, coaching, and support. Advises staff on difficult issues and makes decisions in exceptional situations to enhance operational sustainability and implement appropriate services and assistance.
  • Promotes the company’s safety culture to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Supports the work of the Utility Risk Monitoring Specialists through staff development, performance management, employee relations, and goals aligned to company objectives and operational sustainability.
  • Responsible for creating and managing operational schedules to ensure adequate staffing for each shift.
  • Identifies new technologies to support watch office operations and situational awareness tools for crisis response.
  • Works with T&D Operations, field operations, grid operators, and fire management personnel to gain and maintain knowledge of grid systems to better support the company’s efforts in risk response and wildfire mitigation.
  • Collaborates with key stakeholders to seek opportunities for operational improvement.
  • Manages department budget, inputs, and tracks expenses.
  • Identifies and addresses training needs of Hazard Safety Analysts.
  • Maintains Watch Office procedures and reporting. Ensures documentation and records retention are adhered to.
  • Participates in Company emergency response activities as assigned, including any activities required to prepare for such emergency response.

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, fire science, engineering or other related field desired.
  • Understand/interpret technical information relating to Operations in areas such as Grid Operations, Transmission and Distribution, T&D, Information Technology, IT, Telecom, Generation, Power Procurement, or other technical areas.
  • Knowledge of GIS.
  • Knowledge of personal computers and related software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Power BI, etc.
  • Thorough knowledge of budgeting and forecasting systems and procedures.

 

Skills Requirements

  • Ability to provide thoughtful, progressive, and strategic guidance.
  • Ability to identify, influence, and collaborate with key stakeholders to achieve desired division and organizational goals and objectives.
