The Cerner Laboratory Application Analyst is responsible for the design, implementation, oversight, and ongoing management of the software applications associated with all Laboratory platforms with ongoing hospital operations.  Primary focus of the position will be with General Lab support and Hospital Outreach services (Lab, Imaging, etc.).  The primary goals of the Laboratory Application Analyst are ensuring excellent functionality, performance, reliability, security, fault-tolerance, and operational continuity of the hospital’s Outreach Services program, laboratory applications, and all of the IT-dependent business functions for which they exist. The Laboratory Application Analyst will communicate effectively verbally and via written forms. Additionally, analyst will demonstrate and maintain industry specific knowledge and judgment associated with the specific area of expertise.

SHIFT AND SCHEDULEFull Time 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM; on-call rotation

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS

  • Proper operation and maintenance of all computer information systems associated with General Laboratory and Hospital Outreach services.
  • Provide full support for all Outreach services, General Lab, Microbiology, Anatomic Pathology, Blood Bank, and other related laboratory solutions.
  • Ensure timely completion of service requests and incidents within the supported systems.
  • Ensures high level of data integrity within supported systems.
  • Maintain data/rules for all relevant Cerner lab build and workflows.
  • Plan, coordinate and implement system upgrades to include all computer information systems associated with laboratory systems.
  • Follows system standards for change control, testing, project request and trouble ticket submission.
  • Acts as an Applications trainer for Laboratory and other departments related to lab services initiatives. Development of training programs for all supported systems.
  • Work closely with all divisions of the department and the appropriate management teams. Will involve a high degree of interaction with a diverse population of staff and physicians as well as interaction with vendors.
  • Participates in quality improvement activities. Looks continually for opportunities to improve processes and systems. Investigates, identifies, and prepares proposals to solve specific operational problems within all clinical operational areas, working closely with Department Managers, Supervisors, and Lead technologists as well as involving the next level of administration as appropriate. Displays a commitment to service improvement.
  • Displays a caring, courteous, respectful, and enthusiastic attitude to all, including physicians, technologists, IT leaders, and other groups that interact closely with this position. Communicates effectively and concisely with all members of the healthcare team, verbally and in writing. Exhibits good listening skills.
  • Develops, modifies, and maintains local policies and procedures as well as helps create and/or support system policy and procedures for the supported systems.
  • Works closely with IT and vendors on technical specifications for capital equipment purchases for Lab. Prepares for and assists in the implementation of supported systems and third party upgrades (equipment and software), and oversees activities of vendors in all phases of the implementation.
  • Assists in submission of initial license applications and renewals and updates/amendments of licenses and agreements (and all materials/information associated with such), promptly and in a manner to ensure continued compliance with all applicable rules, regulations, standards, and laws to assure continuous operation of the laboratory services of the hospital
  • Install, configure, support, and maintain software applications as assigned.
  • Work with hospital departmental staff and super-users to continuously optimize and improve the functionality of the hospital application.
  • Develop and maintain documentation of all application, database, interface, and associated services to facilitate the management, optimization, expansion, and troubleshooting of the hospital’s business applications.
  • Develop and maintain adequate configuration documentation to ensure rapid deployment or repair of existing software components to ensure business continuity.
  • Work to ensure excellent application security of all protected information in accordance with hospital policies and procedures, including those defined by HIPAA and other industry standards.
