Job Description
Who We Are
Power Conversion and Storage business works closely with end users in energy-intense industrial applications. We focus on offering integrated electrical systems. A strategy aligned to three major macro trends: Power Stability, Energy Storage and Industrial Electrification.
What You Will do
- Work with the controls teams to review the control algorithm of the product
- Develop high level block diagram of the control system
- Develop simplified models of the control system and test it in different platforms like MATLAB, PSCAD etc
- Develop technical understanding of electrical characteristics of GE Vernova Solar & Storage Solutions power electronics products and their integration to electrical grids.
- Effectively communicate to internal customers by preparing detailed written reports and/or presentations describing analyses performed, solutions developed, and customer value propositions.
- Actively participate in a working environment where teamwork, quality, customer service and innovation are prized
- Run Stability analysis in PSCAD
What You’ll Bring (Basic Qualifications)
- Minimum 3.0 GPA (without rounding)
- Master’s degree or PhD in electrical or electric power engineering, controls engineering or related field of study.
- Enrolled in a full time matriculated and nationally accredited graduate program or PhD program.
What Will Make You Stand Out
- General understanding/awareness of power system and control system concepts
- Understanding of inverter-based electrical equipment
- Demonstrated experience in developing control system or control algorithms
- Demonstrated modeling and technical experience in technical performance analysis of electric power systems with power electronic sources or loads. Experience in planning and execution of technical projects relevant to electric power systems and equipment design.
- Expertise in tuning controller to achieve desired performance requirement established in grid codes.
- Experience with developing model in electromechanical domain like PSS/E, PSLF, PowerFactory etc (for Inverter Based Resource or other Power Electronics based models)
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills (e.g. ability to effectively communicate with all levels of GE and customer/plant staff).
- Understanding of grid systems interactions with power plant equipment and controls.
- Experience with time-domain simulation tools (ATP/EMTP desired, PSCAD/EMTDC and MATLAB).
- Experience with programming environments to understand controller code and complex simulation modeling (Python or Fortran desired)
- Experience with time-domain simulation tools, specifically programming, tuning, and using user-written “black box” models in PSCAD, MATLAB for wind turbine generators, solar inverters, battery energy storage systems (BESS), or other advanced power electronic based systems.
- PhD Degree in Electrical Engineering or related science
- Industry reputation, prior IEEE/CIGRE published articles related to practical (not overly-academic) topics, participation in industry standards working groups.
- Awarded patents on HV power equipment applications a plus.
- Experience with modeling and simulating inverter-based technologies including controls in MATLAB, PSSE and PSLF using both generic and user written models.
Other Eligibility Requirements
- Must be willing to take a drug test as part of the selection process
- Must be willing to submit to a background investigation as part of the selection process
