Clinical Lab Assistant

Essential Job Duties:

• Accession and process the gynecological and non-gynecological specimens as they arrive in the laboratory
• Perform routine stain maintenance on manual and automated stain devices
• Process routine gyn and non-gyn cytology specimens and perform special stain techniques using both manual and automated methods
• If eligible per accrediting bodies, grosses fine needle core biopsies as directed
• Adheres to all PBM Safety policies and to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state, and federal agencies and accrediting bodies
• Handle infectious biological specimens, caustics, toxic chemicals and/or irritants appropriately and safely
• Learn and apply computer related applications and programs, including using electronic keyboards and other peripheral devices
• Ensure work area has proper coverage at all times during the work shift, ie coverage for meal and/or rest periods
• Ensure timely distribution of completed patient materials to assigned pathologists
• Immediately notifies supervisory personnel of malfunctioning instrumentation
• Protects confidentiality of patient information and results at all times
• Utilize automated lab equipment properly according to lab procedures and manufacturers' instructions
• Maintain competency through web-based Standard Operating Procedure updates as well as educational modules
• Cross train in other areas as assigned or requested
• Perform other duties as assigned or requested

Qualifications

EDUCATION & LICENSURE:

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Additional education or in pursuit of obtaining an Associate's degree preferred.

REQUIREMENTS:

• Over five years prior experience as an Accessioning Clerk required.
• Medical laboratory experience required.
