Job Description Summary

The successful applicant will be an Advanced Practice Provider interested in working full-time in the care of patients with Neurological Disease, treating patients with a diagnosis of Stroke, as well as other neurological vascular diagnosis. The APP will join a busy and thriving Stroke Division that includes 9 Vascular Neurologists, 2 Fellows, and 1 additional Outpatient APP, and 2 Inpatient APPs. MUSC is a Comprehensive Stroke and Cerebrovascular Certified Center with an emphasis on interdisciplinary care, a busy clinical practice, active research center and many collaborations on campus.

Job Title: MUSCP Advanced Practice Provider (APP - NP/PA)- Department of Neurology, Division of Stroke

Job Summary/ Purpose: The successful applicant will be an Advanced Practice Provider interested in working full-time in the care of patients with Neurological Disease, treating patients with a diagnosis of Stroke, as well as other neurological vascular diagnosis. The APP will join a busy and thriving Stroke Division that includes 9 Vascular Neurologists, 2 Fellows, and 1 additional Outpatient APP, and 2 Inpatient APPs. MUSC is a Comprehensive Stroke and Cerebrovascular Certified Center with an emphasis on interdisciplinary care, a busy clinical practice, active research center and many collaborations on campus.

Fair Labor Standards Act Status: Salaried/Exempt

Hours per week: 40 Scheduled Work Hours/Shift: Monday – Friday, 8AM – 5PM or 8:30AM to 5:30PM, 4 hour clinic blocks x 8 clinics p/week.

Patient Population Focus: Outpatient

Patient Population Age Range 18 years-death

Required Minimum Training and Experience Training Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant or completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as an APRN as noted below.

APRN License Type/Certification: Currently licensed (or eligible) in the state of South Carolina as a Physician Assistant by the South Carolina Board of Medical Examiners or as a Advanced Practice Nurse (FNP or APNP) with the SC Board of Nursing. Requires certification in Basic Life Support (BLS).

· AGPNP/ANP (Adult Gerontology Primary Care NP or Adult NP): Adult pts (13 years to death), stable chronic disease state management or primary care setting.

· FNP (Family NP): (birth to death) Stable chronic disease state management, primary care across the lifespan.

Experience: Completion of an accredited Physician Assistant program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as a Physician Assistant or completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program and currently licensed or eligible for licensure as an APRN as noted below.

Preferred Training and Experience

Degree of Supervision After orientation and training, under the supervision of the respective Stroke Neurologists, the candidate will manage patients with presenting with various diagnoses associated with Stroke and Cerebrovascular Neurological diagnoses.

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations

All certifications must be current and complete prior to start date: Basic Life Support (BLS). If applicable, DHEC and DEA license applications must be started prior to first day.

Provides direct care to patients through the following activities:

1: Evaluation (30%)

Takes comprehensive physical exams and performs exams that are accurate, complete, concise, relevant to the appropriate age, gender, and clinical problems to provide health assessment and screen for abnormal conditions. 

 Rating of 5; aka Expert:  Demonstrate mastery of responsibilities by leading and working independently with a high level of reliability, accuracy, and timeliness of all duties. Proactive in developing and implementing system improvements.

Rating of 4; aka Role Model: Perform duties in a reliable manner. Demonstrates potential to develop independence and attain full mastery of all duties.
Rating of 3; aka Expected - Meets the minimum job duty requirements but does not consistently demonstrate initiative to foster growth and development to attain greater independence. Requires frequent direct supervis
