Senior Data Engineer - OilX

About the role

The data engineer will be working at the intersection of OilX’s SaaS web application and the internal data injection pipelines and data process automations. The main objective is to build data injection pipelines and collaborate with data science and engineers to create automations and improvements to our product. We organize our teams using concepts of Dual-track Agile (Scrum) methodologies and we would love to onboard people who are going to contribute across product development, optimization, DataOps, DevOps and Continuous Integration.

Back-end Technology Stack

Our backend applications are deployed on AWS and are mainly built with Python. We use all the latest data engineering tooling to power our Machine Learning solutions along with all the modern Python web application tooling for our web application solutions.

Duties

  • As a member of the data engineering team, you will be building critical data injection pipelines and data process automations.
  • Collaborate with the data science and the backend engineering teams to provide automations and improvements to our product.
  • Participate in the data science’s team SCRUM and resolve any interdependencies between the data science team and other teams.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated software development experience within a team-based environment.
  • Experience in cloud services like AWS, GCP or Azure.
  • Experience in Python and preferably in one more strictly type-safe programming language, such as Go, C++ or Java.
  • Working knowledge of relational databases and experience in at least one of: MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle or MS SQL Server.
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English.

Desirable skills

  • Applied knowledge of Linux/Unix OS.
  • Basic knowledge in Python’s data science ecosystem (pandas, scikit-learn, etc.).
  • Experience with REST APIs and their principles.
  • Docker and container technologies in general.
  • Basic knowledge of Apache Airflow.
  • Basic understanding of Ansible, AWS CDK or Terraform.
