Staff Software Engineer

About the Opportunity

Join Contentful’s Ecosystem product group as a Staff Engineer(f/m/d) and help guide our product development teams as we grow Contentful's vibrant marketplace and the developer tooling that supports it.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced, technically strong engineer who thrives on collaboration and leadership. You'll have the chance to provide high level strategic guidance for a wide variety of product development initiatives and also work closely with teams and engineers to build. Along the way, you'll provide strong technical direction across the product group, collaborate closely with our partners in product and design, and facilitate the growth and development of individual engineers.

What to expect? 

• Work with multiple teams on complex technical challenges. Our teams support all facets of the Contentful ecosystem, including the Contentful marketplace, the Contentful App framework, developer experience, and most recently AI agentic experience.
• Collaborate closely with other product, design, and engineering leaders to shape the long term vision of the Contentful ecosystem
• Collaborate with other teams across Contentful to connect our work to the entire product experience
• Collaborate with other staff engineers on high level architecture topics and technical alignment
• Mentor and guide engineers to build quality, scalable code
• Develop innovative new features that take our product in new directions
• Build a deep understanding of our customers to improve onboarding, adoption, and usage of all of our work

What you need to be successful

• 5+ years experience in technical leadership, specifically managing software/platform engineering teams; direct experience building complex platform products and infrastructure at scale.
• Proven track record delivering high-quality software and platform capabilities for internal and external customers.
• Deep engineering background including cloud architectures, containerization, and scalable APIs.
• Demonstrated ability to abstract complex AI technologies (LLMs, RAG, integrations) into usable, compliant, and extensible platform features.
• Strategic, data-driven thinking in translating business requirements into effective technical execution.
• Advanced stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Experience embedding governance, compliance, and privacy (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, AI transparency requirements) within development practices.
• Outcome-oriented and pragmatic; focused on delivering tangible business impact and customer value.
• Entrepreneurial mindset; comfortable with ambiguity and change.
• Commitment to professional development and team growth.
• Excellent communication skills aligning diverse stakeholders.
• An innovative spirit and willingness to boldly embrace new technologies and directions
• [Bonus] Experience in content management, digital experience platforms, or integrating AI/ML solutions into SaaS platforms.
