About the role

Description

Are you an experienced accountant passionate about making a difference in your community? Council for the Homeless is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Accountant to join our team. In this role, you'll manage accounts payable, oversee grant billing, and contribute to general accounting functions, all while supporting our mission to end homelessness.


CFTH operates the Housing Solutions Center, our community’s one-stop access point for over 40 housing assistance programs, including emergency shelter, homelessness prevention, and programs designed for specific populations such as families or unaccompanied youth.  The Accountant provides assistance to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for financial statement preparation, responding to financial audits, monitoring reviews, budgeting and other financial tasks. The Accountant will work with the Grants Finance Administrator to ensure that grant expenditures are appropriately monitored to avoid over or under expenditure and meet the funders fiscal/billing guidelines and contractual requirements. As the Accountant, you will play a pivotal role in achieving our mission in the following essential responsibilities: 


Accounts Payable:

  • Process vendor invoices and recurring charges, ensuring accuracy and proper documentation.
  • Handle monthly credit card payments and process payments per CFTH policies.
  • Guide staff on travel and expense reimbursement procedures and ensure compliance.
  • Maintain compliance with 1099 and LEIE requirements, including W-9 collection.
  • Respond to payment status inquiries and manage accounts payable reports.

Grant Billing:

  • Prepare and submit grant invoices, ensuring accuracy and adherence to deadlines.
  • Maintain detailed records of grant expenditures and revenues, assisting with financial reports.
  • Support audits and grant compliance reviews.

General Accounting:

  • Reconcile accounts, prepare monthly financial statements, and assist with annual budgets.
  • Collaborate with the finance team on grant finances and reporting.
  • Support fundraising campaigns and prepare cost allocation plans.

Pay and Benefits

  • The starting salary for this position is $29.90 per hour. In compliance with the Equal Pay & Opportunities act, the full salary range for this position is $29.90 - $35.89 per hour.
  • Full-time, non-exempt position. May be required to work a few hours on weekends and holidays when needed.
  • 100% employer-paid medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term and long-term disability insurance for the employee only. 
  • Benefits package also includes 9.03% paid into WA PERS by employer, 12 company paid holidays, and generous paid time off and separate sick time accrual.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in accounting or related subject plus additional two years of education or experience in accounting or related field required. Candidates who are actively pursuing a relevant degree and are within six months of graduation would be considered to have met this requirement.
  • Non-Profit industry accounting, Governmental, property management, affordable housing accounting experience preferred.
  • CPA certification preferred.
