About the role
Description
Reviews and evaluates consumer loan applications; analyzes and evaluates loan requests and the members' ability to repay; counsel’s members regarding appropriate financial planning and practices; makes certain that members receive superior quality of service in line with the "close and caring touch" described in SLFCU's mission statement.
Job Duties:
- Receive and interview consumer loan requests by web application and phone. Analyze supporting documentation (e.g. purchase agreements and title policies). Evaluate credit worthiness and utilize credit reports to verify accuracy of the loan application. Input information into the consumer lending origination system.
- Educate and advise members on such matters as appropriate financial planning, policies and rates. Verify and inspect collateral offered. Calculate loan payments, determine loan to value (LTV) and ascertain loan payoffs to other financial institutions. Make recommendations for approval or denial of the loan application.
- Provide a superior member experience by:
- Actively listening to and assessing the needs of the member
- Explaining the features and benefits of targeted products and services
- Offering targeted solutions to meet the member’s needs
- Conducting callbacks to members
- Process and review loan applications that are initiated through an indirect (third party) partner.
- Through the MVD Now process:
- Collect necessary documents required for vehicle title transfer
- Run MVR to determine the status of the vehicle title
- Send MVD Now package to Loan Services
- Properly document and file loan applications to secure the credit union’s collateral
Requirements
Experience and Knowledge:
- Minimum two years’ experience* working in a financial institution with exposure to consumer loans.
- Basic understanding of lending fundamentals and regulations.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- Demonstrates ability to learn and effectively utilize in house programs and third-party software such as MVD Now.
- Thorough knowledge of Credit Union products and services, features, and benefits. Able to compare SLFCU products to products in the marketplace, desired.
Education:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Bachelor's degree in business or related field desired.
Interpersonal Skills:
- Possesses exceptional interpersonal skills. Demonstrates daily the credit union's commitment to maintaining a close and caring touch with its members.
- Demonstrated relationship management skills.
Communication:
- Demonstrates strong oral and written communication skills; able to communicate financial concepts, policies and procedures clearly and succinctly toothers.
Other Skills:
- Demonstrated ability to ensure that documentation produced is accurate and meets all organizational guidelines and policies.
- Possesses ingenuity and sound business judgment.
- Constantly strives to maintain product knowledge through continued education and research. Able to attend schools, seminars or other types of training to further expand and enhance knowledge base.
- Exhibits ability to cross-sell products effectively, when appropriate.
