How You’ll Contribute
The National Geographic Society headquarters, based in Washington, D.C., is undergoing a significant renovation project on its campus (called the Museum of Exploration), which will be completed in 2026. Components of the new guest experience will include a state-of-the-art pavilion entrance, auditorium, iconic photo gallery, exhibition space, immersive walk-through attraction, retail, food and beverage, education center, archives, tours, and exciting new event space.Reporting into the project management division of the Exhibitions team, the Project Manager will be a part of the team responsible for National Geographic Society’s traveling exhibits program and the $350 million renovation project of the NGS headquarters in Washington, D.C., into a new public experience proposed to open in 2026.
The Project Manager will contribute to the timeline, budget, schedule, and communications for internal teams’ and vendors to manage the creative development, fabrication + production, installation and remediation of exhibits for the Museum of Exploration and travelling exhibitions program.
This is a fixed term role through August 2026.
Your Impact
Responsibilities Include
Project Management (60%)
Manage concurrent projects with a variety of stakeholders, sets expectations, estimates scope, assigns tasks, obtains buy-in from team and leadership, ensures follow up and completion of work.
Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget by developing and maintaining clear and detailed project schedules and budgets that have up-to-date estimates, costs, milestones and timelines.
Define scope of work, vendor acquisition and manages the awarding of contracts, vendor conformance with deliverables and coordinates submittals.

Communication + Collaboration (20%)
Liaise between stakeholder groups to ensure clarity, transparency, quality, and project progression.
Works with the Director of Project Management and Project Management team to identify opportunities to improve organizational efficiencies, facilitation, workflow and solutions.
Represent the standards of NGS as a contact for internal and external stakeholders on projects by communicating information between parties in a timely and accurate manner.
Scheduling, Reporting and Tools (20%)
Operate project management software systems to manage (or create when needed) work plans, timelines and budgets that drive the overall Base Camp project schedule and completion.
Oversee the retention of accurate records and archives of work.
What You’ll Bring
Necessary Knowledge and Skills
Highly organized, self-starter, with superb communication, interpersonal and creative problem solving skills.
Experience managing complex projects, teams, vendors and schedules.
Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize effectively, meet deadlines, and pay close attention to detail.
Capacity to work independently and in teams as required.
Competencies such as sound business judgment, facilitation, decision making, problem solving, and team building.
Tools expertise in project management software: Monday.com, Airtable.
Educational Background
Bachelor’s degree
Minimum Years and Types of Experience
5+ years of project management experience, PMP preferred. Experience in themed entertainment, creative, or museum industries preferred.
