Job Description
Main Function
Under general supervision, provides secretarial and administrative assistance to the Midtown Operations Department Leaders.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Handle large amounts of written, electronic and verbal information in a compliant and discreet manner.
- Maintain correspondence and files related to the Operations department.
- Coordinate administrative functions to ensure the department's effective communication and response to day-to-day requirements and operational components.
- Coordinate schedules and meetings to ensure timely follow-up and completion.
- Provide administrative support for special projects.
- Perform certain executive functions within authorized scope of decision-making and/or refer decision-making to the proper authority.
- Compose correspondence, presentations, spreadsheets by utilizing Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Power Point.
- Answer office telephones, screen and direct calls.
- Maintain departmental operations including routine helpdesk requests, the supply inventory and equipment.
- Enhance professional growth and development through in-service meetings and educational programs.
- Provide consistent, superior customer service that demonstrates support and compliance with the University of Maryland Medical Center Midtown Campus’ mission, vision and values, goals, objectives and policies
Qualifications
Education
- AA degree in secretarial science, or equivalent education/experience.
Experience
- Minimum of three years job-related experience, preferably in a healthcare setting.
- Demonstrated computer skills utilizing word-processing, database, spreadsheet applications.
- Advanced word processing skills (65WPM) required with proficiency in functions such as tables, columns, data manipulation.
- Must have proven critical-thinking skills and ability to maintain the confidentiality of privileged, confidential and/or sensitive information.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
- Ability to exercise tact and good judgment. Independent judgment is necessary.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to maintain attention to detail while simultaneously handling multiple tasks.
- Ability to establish and maintain good rapport with contacts described below, particularly administrative personnel, physicians, hospital personnel, outside counsel and the general public.

- Pay Range: $21.5-$30.12
