This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for an Electrical Design Engineer for our Richmond, VA location to work on projects involving electrical systems design including power distribution, emergency power systems, lighting, fire alarm, communications, and site electrical systems for healthcare, higher education, laboratories, commercial, mixed-use and industrial facilities.  At WSP, we are inspired by bringing together best in class talent to ideate, design & deliver future-ready solutions that support our vast client base.  Across the world, the importance of power and power systems touches every aspect of our lives. Your Impact

  • Work with engineering teams on innovative design, specifically in sustainable, high performing buildings including healthcare and higher education facility projects.
  • Work within multi-disciplinary project teams to develop drawing and specification documents for issuance to architects, contractors and building owners.
  • Plan and execute  electrical engineering tasks and contribute to a full range of electrical design activities.
  • Research & recommend fundamental components identified in electrical designs.
  • Service utility coordination and design of power distribution systems, lighting, fire alarm and emergency power systems, low voltage infrastructure, and UPS design.
  • Participate in the development of internal reports and collateral or reports for client meetings.
  • Provide project status updates and reports to clients, management, integrated project teams, and stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain client relationships and attend client and stakeholder meetings.
  • Provide guidance to junior staff or interns to assist with project flow.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related discipline(or equivalent experience).
  • 3+ years of post education experience as an Electrical Engineer including design deliverables for projects in complex buildings such as healthcare, laboratories, mission critical, data centers, or science and technology.  
  • Working knowledge of Revit AND AUTOCAD
  • Knowledge of electrical engineering principles, practices, process, design/build, and the application to permitting and project work-related issues.
  • Knowledge of building, electrical, and energy codes.
  • Capable self-leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to express ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Moderate proficiency with technical writing, office automation, discipline-specific design software.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Engineer-In-Training Certification.
  • Experience with healthcare projects.
  • Prior design experience
