Job Description:

Make a difference in the lives of people with disabilities, every day! Join us as an Assistive Technology Specialist focusing on home, vehicle, or workplace accommodations and modifications to help people with disabilities have independence in every day tasks that others might take for granted.

If you want to help Nebraskans live better lives and work on a great team with supportive management, this could be a great fit! These positions work with a diverse group of people from professionals, vendors, and contractors, to families and consumers. This position will work with students in schools as well and attending job fairs to assist with ergonomic assessments.

Office Location: This position is assigned to our office located in Scottsbluff, NE.

Pay Grade 7: $30.219/hour ($30.597/hour after pay structure increases on June 30, 2025)

This rate is based upon available budget funds; any offer will be made at this rate.

Essential Functions

  • Designs and provides technical assistance (e.g., use, modification, maintenance, repair) related to home and vehicle modifications and other assistive devices.
  • Participates in awareness activities at various conferences and events.
  • Develops and coordinates internal and external training, workshops, and public presentations.
  • Provides hands-on demonstration and trial use of assistive technology devices and records demonstration and loan information in the equipment database.
  • Provides technical assistance to employers, educators, professionals, and family members of people with disabilities regarding assistive devices (e.g., their design, use, modification, maintenance, and repair).
  • Documents and manages case information, develops plans and specifications for projects, completes evaluation reports, and communicates case progress.
  • Maintains regular & reliable attendance, possesses a valid driver’s license and travels independently, and works in a variety of settings.

Working Conditions and Travel:

This position requires approximately 40% of work time spent in an office environment; the remaining 60% is spent traveling or working in alternative sites such as meetings, conferences, and within the community including private households, schools, and employment settings. There is also approximately two days of overnight travel per month.

Requirements / Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in a related field and three years of experience related to the essential functions of the position. Any equivalent education and/or work experience may be substituted in order to meet the minimum qualifications of the position.

Preferred Qualifications: Education in related fields (e.g., architecture, construction, occupational/physical therapy) and experience providing home-related assistive technology and support to people with disabilities and their families, and designing environmental modifications and adaptive devices.
