About the role

Provides diagnostic ultrasound scans of patients to the radiologists utilizing ultrasound equipment in accordance with the physician's orders and policies and procedures. Surveys and assesses the anatomy and pathophysiology in the use of ultrasound in the adult and pediatric patient. Maintains competency in at least 4 specialty areas. Participates in advancement of sonography in direct relationship with radiologists. Develops departmental and/or community wide education activities. Organizes accreditation application.

Education Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in allied health, applied sciences or related field is required.
  • Associates degree in allied health, applied sciences or related field AND 3 years working as a sonographer OR High school diploma/GED AND 5 years working as a sonographer may be considered in lieu of bachelor's degree.
Experience Qualifications
  • 4 years of sonography/ultrasound experience is required.
  • 7 years of sonography/ultrasound experience is required if meeting the education equivalency with an Associates degree OR 9 years of sonography/ultrasound experience is required if meeting the education equivalency with a high school diploma/GED.
Certifications, Licenses and Registrations
  • Certification as a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) by the American registry of Diagnostic Sonographers (ARDMS) is required.
  • Successful completion of 4 specialty registry exams is required. This may include Abdomen (AB), Breast (BR), Fetal Echocardiography (FE), Obstetrics & Gynecology (OB/GYN), Pediatric Sonography, or Vascular Technology (VT).
  • Member of 1 or more professional associations is required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) is required.
